pre-op questions

I'm having a TVH/RSO and P repair next Tuesday (9/13). I just had my pre-op yesterday at the hospital. They had me fill out all the paperwork and meet with a nurse who answered any questions that I had and gave me pre-op instructions. Then a small blood sample was taken. (The urine sample will be the day of the surgery.) It wasn't a big deal at all.

I plan on taking the list of questions I found on this website to ask my doctor and/or the hospital during my pre-op. I've only had day surgery before too, so having a list ready in advance is going to be a big help.

i have to have medical clearance from my pcp on the 12th. i already had clearance from my rheumatologist, due to my lupus, i know my clearance consists of lab work (cbc,cmp,type and screen and pregnancy test) urinalysis, chest x-ray, and ekg) my clearance from my regular doctor is on the 12th. then on the 19th i have to go to my ob/gyn to have a clamp inserted in my cervix to try and bring it down. don't ask, i have no idea lol. i guess i will be surprised to find out exactly what this consists of. then the big day is the 26th.

I think ya'll are right, every hospital/doctor is different as far as the pre-op appt. is concerned. I am now 6 weeks post-op TAH due to "huge" fibroids. My surgery was done in a large University Hospital and my pre-op visit took 7 1/2 hours. First saw my doctors, then financial (had to write a very big check) and finally anestesiology (sp).

The best advice I found was be sure and write down your questions. I started on my list about a week before the pre-op visit. Some of my questions seemed kinda silly.....like what kind of pads does the hospital offer? Old belted kind? Sticky tape kind? And are they funky dollar store rejects or good pads? I took some of my own just in case and didn't use them. My hospital had good ones. I guess I am spoiled and I am a little fussy.

There are lists here on this site to help get you started. And remember if your DH or partner has any questions be sure to ask those too. I left space on my question list to write down the answers. I think had like 30 questions for my doc. Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery.
