abbreviations? BSO, LVSH etc,& is dr. advice ok?

Hi Ladies,

I am new to this forum. Somewhere I read what the abbreviations mean and I know some of them but not all. Can anyone clarify?

Also, are we allowed to ask if anyone has had a specific Uro/gyn? I haven't seen any names on here...

Thanks sisters

Re: abbreviations? BSO, LVSH etc,& is dr. advice ok?

Hi soulsurfer, BSO is Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy which is the technical term for removing both ovaries and tubes. LVSH is one I haven't heard of. The L is likely for Laparoscopic, V maybe vaginal, S is likely supracervical (meaning leaving the cervix in place) and H is for Hysterectomy. But you won't be having that surgery because in the United States, if you have a vaginal hysterectomy, you cannot keep your cervix. So there must be an incorrect letter in there somewhere. Perhaps you can figure it out. Here is a link to commonly used abbreviations: abbreviations.

As for sharing doctor's names, you cannot do it on the public boards per our TOS. However, if you are looking for a doctor, you can post that you are looking, and ask members to PM you with recommendations. This is usually done in the state forums. You cannot post anything like, "I'm seeing Dr. X, has anyone else had surgery with him?" You can find the TOS under the Members tab.

Hope this helps!

Re: abbreviations? BSO, LVSH etc,& is dr. advice ok?

Elsie,

LOL guess I didn't read my TOS hahaha Thanks sooo much for the link to the abbreviations. I knew some of them back from my pregnancy website like this one I went to 16 years ago but others were like ????? what is that.

I figured that it wasn't allowed to ask about Dr. X. Don't really know how to PM on state threads but I CAN ask DH cuz he is a software engineer. That is probably why I don't know how to do any of this stuff............it gets too hard I just ask him "can you fix this...."

Thanks again sis!
