Heavy lifting (50 lbs bags of grain)

I am 8 weeks post op and wondering if it would be ok to lift and carry 50 lb bags of grain. I have a small hobby farm with chickens, sheep and goats.

Millie

You are only through initial healing not full healing. I have horses and didn't lift grain or bales of hay for several months.

Talk to your Dr but my personal opinion is you need more time for those weights.

I actually had one Dr ask me why I would want to lift those weights since her view was it made me more susceptible for prolapse in the future.

Re: Heavy lifting (50 lbs bags of grain)

Please take it easy! If you have to go out, cut open the bags and scoop it out with a smaller container.

I'm almost 10 weeks and made turkey soup the other day, was careful with the heavy pot and filling it slowly with a water pitcher, but later got buzzing around and had a brain lapse and picked up the whole stock batch to put in the fridge... Ouch! I got it into the fridge disaster free but that was a bit of a rude reminder!

Re: Heavy lifting (50 lbs bags of grain)

When I went to my check at 7 weeks, I asked about resuming weightlifting. I was told not to lift anything over 10 pounds for another 6 weeks.

Re: Heavy lifting (50 lbs bags of grain)

No, you cannot be lifting 50 pound sacks of anything!
Either get someone else to move them or, as suggested above, open the bags and transfer the feed into smaller, more manageable parcels.
At 8 weeks I was able to comfortably, and with doc's approval, carry 15 pounds, give or take, so I would imagine it would be about right to start out by breaking a 50 pounder into 4 bags if you're you're gonna resume those chores yourself.

Thanks for the advice. I will call my dr today. I definitely will take it slow and remember that I am still healing on the inside.
