Had Embolization on April 13th

Hello,

Well, I am two days out from having a uterine embolization and so far so good. I was very nervous about the procedure and the pain I had read about. I was nervous every step of the way from having the IV inserted into my hand instead of my arm, to having the cath inserted to wondering what is would be like to be "sedated yet awake" during the procedure, to waiting for the needle to my groin, to waiting to see how bad the pain would be. I'm happy to say that each of these things went fine. I'm convinced that kind nurses make all the difference in the world.

I did have pain just as the procedure was ending but this is when the morphine began and it seemed to control things pretty well. The worst part for me was feeling like throwing up later on that night and having to be moved from my comfy bed in radiology to another bed in the hospital where I was admitted. I had no pain that first night and now am home, and just sore. Honestly, the laproscopy I had in December was worse pain wise. Before I went in, I knew that I had several fibroids and at least one that was 5 cm. While in there, they did see two that were closer to 6cm as well as several others. I won't really know if this worked for a couple of months but right now, I'm glad it is done and I am relieved that it was not bad. Thanks for listening. Cross your fingers for me.

i am glad to hear that you are doing ok.

i looked into having this procedure done, but i was not a candidate for it. i think i would have been pretty nervous too concidering all of info on how painful it can. my dr. flat out did not recommend it (surely because they don't do it, not because it does not work)

i have my fingers crossed that this will be the end of all your problems, and that you'll be feeling great in no time.

Thank you so much for the update.

I know that lots of ladies consdier the procedure don't get enough information about what it's really like. I wasn't a candidate because I have a reaction to iodine, but I was very interested in it and have heard that it's very promising.

Please let us know how things go as you recover in the next few months.

Take care.

Had Embolization on April 13th

Hi LotsToLearn,

I had an embolization in July 2004, it helped with my bleeding a lot. They're now 28 days on the dot, for about 1-2 days for the most part.

Just take it slow for a couple of weeks. Tylenol if you get a fever. My first few periods were very heavy, but after that were fine.

Hi Lotstolearn,

Glad to hear things went well for you with the UFE. I had mine in February of 2004 and so far all is well. I think the anxiety of the unknown is usually worse than the actual procedure itself. Take it easy and don't rush back into things too quickly. Your body needs time to recover even though you didn't have surgery. And don't panic if periods are worse before they get better. I was told to expect the worst for the first ninety days. First month was horrendous but after that everything has been completely under control.

Good-luck

Thank you for sharing with us. I just had an MRI and meet with the doc next month to see if I can have this done. It was really good to hear what you went through. I hope you will have a very speedy recovery.
