3 days post op

My best friend flew out to AZ from CA to take care of me and I am so grateful. There is no way I could have gone through this alone. I also had a friend doing Reiki on me in the pre op waiting room, and remotely while I was in surgery, and afterwards too.

I had never had surgery before. They gave me some pain meds that made me feel high, and wheeled me to the surgery room which looked like a big wear-house. I saw the Da Vinci in the corner, they moved me from the hospital bed to the surgery table, and thats all I remember. Until I was waking up with my eyes swollen shut telling them “I’m gonna be sick!” People were buzzing around me, but I couldn’t see them. They gave me something for my nausea, I saw my friend and mouthed the word ****before passing out again.

My bestie insisted on spending the night in the hospital with me. I’m grateful, because at one point the nurses moved my call button out of sight/reach and I needed to go the bathroom. If bff wasn’t there, I would have peed the bed. Get up was tender, I moved super slow. The next day I walked a little around the unit, and was discharged.

It’s a good idea to stay on-top of your pain meds. We didn’t get mine filled right away and by the time I took them I was in pretty bad shape. I was taking Oxy + an anti nausea every four hours. Really helped. Slept a lot, walked around the house a little bit, not much of an appetite so stuck to soft foods in small portions.

By day three (today) I had terrible gas pains. I felt like I was trying to fart out chinese throwing stars made out of lava. Or give birth to Freddy Krugger. Pain like maybe I’ll pass out pain. I took some Gas X and was saved. Make sure you have some before you need it.

I haven’t had a BM yet, a little nervous about it. Drinking pear juice, and prune juice, and mint tea. Easy on what I eat. I’m sitting up and feeling more alert. Today I only had one Oxy (you know they make you constipated, right?), and I’ll take another one before bed... I might go for a short trip to the video store.

I’m grateful for the people who have been coming by to walk the dogs or rake the yard or bring me coffee (yes!) or make me food. And keep me company.

Oh, and you know what’s cool? The Da Vinci only had to go through my belly button. No other incision sites.

I’ll keep you posted on my progression. So far its slow go for me. Thank you all so much hystersisters. This site has made a huge difference.
