pre-op jitters
This is my first time on this message board. I'm having TAH on May 9th. I am fighting to stay positive. But, lately have felt somewhat depressed about the whole thing.
I have pre-cancerous cysts on my ovaries so I don't have much of a choice on the surgery. I'm awaiting a second opinion from a Gyn, Oncologist.
Thanks for any ideas on how to "hang in there"?
I've enjoyed reading the pre and post op boards. They have helped a little, but then...

pre-op jitters
Dar Kary,
The waiting really is the hardest part. I spent a lot of time on the boards reading and learning what to expect. I also had the blessing (or curse depending on your viewpoint!) of having my surgery around Christmas time so I spent a lot of time getting ready for the holidays. I can't give you any magic words other than to say we all know how you are feeling. Come join us in chat too - it's a wonderful way to waste a lot of time with truly lovely ladies!
Hugs and best wishes!

pre-op jitters
Sandy,
Another one with a long wait! You both - You and Kary - both have long waits. I had about a 71/2 week wait myself. I tell you - the time before the surgery goes a lot slower than the time after the surgery. Pre op jitters are normal - in fact I'm one of those that would be worried if you DIDN'T have jitters!
Try to focus on how good you will feel when this is all over - remember why you are doing it and who you are doing it for. Mainly yourself! In my case, I was also wanting to feel better for my husband and boys. And I do. Still have some aches and pains and tiredness but they don't say a 6 month to one year recovery for nothing!
Best wishes and we're glad you found us!
Hugs,

Wishing You All the Best
I have the Pre-Op Jitters Also- I think EVERYONE Does that is Pre-Op. I am now 2 weeks away from my TAH BSO date. I had about 7 weeks notice as well. If the Drs only knew how crazy it makes us to wait all that time. To them it is routine. My husband is an M.D., Internal Medicine though, so he does not routinely or EVER do Hysterectomies, but even to him, this is a routine procedure. I tell you, I sometimes wish he could have a uterus! But anyway, I thought I would give you some ideas on what I am doing to keep myself busy..........
I did alot of reading up on the procedure, via the internet, and I check in on Hystersisters.com Daily (er, usually at least 3x's a day), so this is keeping me informed. In addition, I took the advice of others. I read the lists of what to pack, and today I packed. I went to Marshalls Department Store ( I hope you know what Marshalls is), and bought myself a new cotton nightgown, and a light robe and new slippers. Nothing expensive, but nice looking and comfortable. The thought of wearing a hospital gown the day after surgery is YIKES, I cannot think about it. In addition, I made sure to get a new toothbrush and toothpaste-all packed. Last week I hit Sears and found a pair of lightweight comfy jogging pants and a tee shirt with 3/4 sleeves. I imagine coming out of the hospital, that blue jeans will not cut it-they will never zip up! Now during my reading escapades on this website one of the ladies suggested buying some nice soaps that are inexpensive and some note cards. She said to pack this stuff also, and then we would have a nice few gifts to give the nurses that stood by our sides. So, Off to Marshalls I went again testerday, and found loads of fragrant soaps for about $4.00 each for a box of 2 or 3. So I bought a few boxes of these, oh, and slipped one into the cart for myself (Patchouli). I figured that even if they do not choose to bathe with the soaps, they can always uses them as sachets for their clothing drawers! (I do that sometimes). Anyway it is the thought that counts. I think I have some blank note cards and will pack them too! So anyway, between reading up on this procedure, and shopping around a little, and working(I am a Supervisor for a General Contractor), I have been busy, and able to cope. Since my surgery is on Monday, April 22, 2002, my husband and I have tickets to see a Broadway play on Staurday Evening the 20th. I figured that this will be the last nice thing we can do for a couple of months. On Sunday I will do all the laundry, clean and make sure all the bills are paid. Believe me, doctors are bad about doing laundry and paying househld bills-or is that just men in General?- He vacuums though.
Well, I will keep you in my thoughts, and wish you all of the very very best. Please keep in touch. If you get Frazzled, just find something to keep your mind occupied.
Best Wishes,
Sharon
