"Size" after surgery

I looked thru all the threads and didn't see an answer to this question, so I'm just gonna ask it ... Does the "size" of your vagina change after a hysterectomy? My doctor has said that I have pre-cancerous cells and should consider a complete hysterectomy. My sex life is very good and everything "fits". I'm afraid that after surgery that will change. Can anyone answer this for me?

I was worried about this also, but my husband has commented that he likes the new "custom fit" as he put it. I asked my doctor if my vagina was shorter now, and he put his forefinger about 1/4" away from his thumb and said "maybe by this much." What he did say was the angle of the vagina changes some. My husband and I have been married for 29 years and have always enjoyed each other very much, and we still do now, thankfully.

i asked my doc about this as well, because dh and i were concerned that with uterus and cervix gone that it wouldnt shorten it and (tmi here, be careful) dh is larger that most. doc told me that there was no need to worry that IF i did shorten it would be so minimal that neither of us would know the difference. personally, i think i was more concerned than dh since i didnt want him to blow a hole in the vaginal cuff the first time out. doc said not to worry. however, i am not cleared for sex yet (4 weeks tomorrow), so i dont have the first hand account of what happens and i trusting the doc.

Thank you so much for your response. I appreciate your candor! Sounds like you have a great rapport with your doctor. Good luck to you once you're cleared!

Thank you for your response. I'm so glad to hear from you and another person that it shouldn't be a problem. I know I should be able to talk to my doctor about this, and maybe I will get the courage up before I actually have my surgery. I hope you continue to do well!

I guarantee you that you will NOT be the first woman ever to ask your doctor this question. In fact, I'll bet that EVERY woman asks it! You (and your insurance company, I assume) are paying this doctor ungodly amounts of money for services rendered, so you are entitled to ask him/her absolutely anything you want!!

"Size" after surgery

Hi,

I wondered the same thing. I did some reading online, checked out some goole images on 'vaginal cuff' since I had my cervix removed, and it makes more sense to me now.

When my dh were intimate prior to surgery, he would sometimes 'bump' my cervix which was not at all pleasant. Now that I don't have one, I'm thinking that if there's a slight change, it won't be noticeable because of how elastic the tissue down there is overall.

One of my close friends had the same procedure, and she assured me that she and her dh had no issues whatsoever.....

If you check out the post-op updates, I'll be posting a great big YAHOO when I get the six week all clear for hanky panky and I'll let you know!

I am not speaking from experience myself, but my doctor has also assured us that it won't be noticeable...I didn't even have to ask...My DH came with me to all my pre-ops, and the doctor seemed more worried about making DH feel better about the situation than ME!! My doc was very optimistic about everything, and so far he has been right on the money. Sound's like he's right about this one too.
