Re: Really nervous
Hi!
I had a TAH on 27th October. They had to do a large incision due to the size my uterus had swollen to and to successfully access several fibroids. I had the uncontrollable bleeding and huge clots prior to surgery. I had wanted anything BUT a TAH as it is supposed to be the most debilitating of the hysterectomies also I had done loads of research and read all the horror stories.
My message to you is not to read too much, the best support was the information on what to take to the hospital, how to address pain issues (especially the wind issue!!!) and techniquesand tips for getting around with minimal pain/soreness post-op.
4 weeks 5 days after the operation I feel very lucky to be able to say everything is going great (touch wood!) - still have a swollen belly which is tender and a little discomfort when having bowl movements, but nothing horrendous or unmanageable. I am able to drive, go out shopping and have been told that I can start dog walking again next week - with care!
Everything needs to be done with care, common sense and slowly.
The one message I would pass on to you is that everyone is different, just like their experiences. Focus on yours being a positive one as plenty of people have them. I wasted too much time preparing for the worse and freaking myself out.
At the end of the day 'was it worth it?'.........Oh yes, yes, yes.....I feel mentally and hormonally much better than I did before the op!
Lots of luck and hugs to you!x
