Only two days to go!
It is nearly midnight and I just had to check in to read today's posts. I've received soooo much information from The Hyster Home site that my initual fears and countless questions have been answered-with the caring help of my doctor, too.
I am fortunate to be retired (an elementary teacher) and to have a DH to care for me as well. But, I am 66 and have diabetis so, I will perhaps take longer to heal tan many of you younger princesses!
It won't be long now until I get to have that wonderful "cocktail" and learn quickly to stay near "The Throne". I bet THAT will be fun!
I've decided to keep my cervix and my "friends" think that is a mistake! What do you think? I still want to enjoy
my dear husband and it is said THAT helps!
Anyone else have the Tuesday date? Lois C

Hello Lois,
Doesn't it feel good to finally have the date close by and the waiting is almost over?! Only you can make the decision about the cervix. Personally, for me, I haven't noticed a difference without mine, so I'm not missing it at all.
I just wanted to wish you the best of luck with your surgery. I haven't regreted my decision to have this surgery for one minute.

Only two days to go!
Hi Lois,
There are valid reasons to keep the cervix and valid reasons to go on and take it out. One thing I considered was my pap smears....I had some abnormal results several years ago and so my cervix was already a bit of a mess. On the other hand, my results for the last 10 years have all been normal...so it was a tough call.
My husband and I have already talked about the fact that we'll need to 'experiment' a bit to see how the new me will work...

Lois,
It is your decision concerning your cervix - well yours and your GYN.
I decided to keep mine. I kept it and am very happy that I have. All of my yearly pap tests have been normal - and I don't mind that I will need to continue with the annual pap test...
The cervix provides a lot of support to the pelvic floor. Both of my grandmothers had hysterectomies back in the 1930s. Back then, everything was removed - uterus, cervix, and ovaries. One of them developed bladder incontinence later in life - in her mid 80s. My grandmother's DR told her that not having the cervix for the support contributed to the bladder incontinence.
I am glad that I had a choice...My dear grandmother lived until the age of 96 - very healthy and active right up until the end. So, I hope I have many, many years ahead of me. And, I don't want to predispose myself to bladder problems.
Wishing you an uneventful surgery and recovery. Take care.
