Blood in urine starting one week post op
Hi,
This is my first post, I have been getting support and most of my questions answered by reading others posts. My husband even goes to your site when he is worried about me. We argue about what I can and cant do yet, so this site is the decider.
I cant seem to find a post addressing this problem. At one week post op I was sore and tired but everything seemed on schedule with no problems. Then I noticed that there was blood in my urine. I told the Dr about it at my 1 week appt and he did a urine test and yes it showed blood. So he is concerned but thinks it is most likely a UTI since they did a cystoscopy at the end of the hysterectomy and didnt see any problems. He put me on antibiotics and said to call him in three days and tell him how I am. If I am not 100% better he is going to do a scan.
Well tomorrow is the day I am supposed to call him and not only am I not better but I have noticed a scarry thing and I am hoping someone reading this will be able to tell me what it might mean.
Most of the time when I pee its just that the tp has pink on it so I can tell there is some blood mixed into the urine but twice I have not just seen blood tinged urine but there were drops of pure blood when I peed. Its hard to say for sure since everything in the region hurts but I do feel like there is a strange pain that feels more urethra related then uterus. I havent had burning like an infection but there is pain.
So ladies any ideas? I am scarred that it is going to mean a set back. I was hoping to go back to work part time next week. And I certainly dont want to have to go back into surgery, that would be like throwing away the last ten days. I have sick leave but there are limits.

Re: Blood in urine starting one week post op
The first week or 2 from my recovery, I was seeing a faint pink color when I went to pee. It was from the vaginal area. I mentioned it to my Dr who said it was just discharge from the surgery and it went away. I didn't have any pain or sensation around that area. Best wishes to you!

Re: Blood in urine starting one week post op
Hi and Welcome!! Yes, this is a fabulous website! I don't know how anyone could get through the hyster journey without having the information and support we get here!!
I'm sorry you are having problems and I didn't experience the bloody urine so I can't give you any specific hints. But, if it were me, I'd call the dr's office now and tell them what is happening. Maybe they will tell you to wait till tomorrow to make a determination. But since it seems your problem is worsening, I would think you should let the dr know. When we're talking about our health, it's better to err on the side of caution.
You're thinking of going back to work next week??? Either you are SuperWoman or I am the biggest wimp in the world!!!! I went back to work on Monday (7 1/2 weeks) and it was alot harder than I expected. So I worked Mon and Tues and am home today. Will go back Thurs and Fri then have the weekend off. And will do the same next week.
Good luck with your problem and let us know how you're doing. Make sure to visit us by making some more posts and comments. The more of us here, the merrier!! Take care of yourself!

My first thought would be a kidney stone. Is it hard to pee? Like you kind of have to force it out?

Re: Blood in urine starting one week post op
NewYear2010:: Thanks for the words hopefuly this will also clear up, but I know this isnt vaginal, its definetly in the urinary tract.
Starry Nite: no I am not Superwoman and you are not a wimp. I had a laproscopic hystercomy so I only have a couple of insisions less then an inch wide. I know I still have all the internal ones but I think that not having the major cut with all the stomach muscles involved really helps. I dont have an abdominal hystectomy to compare it to but I did have two c-sections and they were much worse then this. Also I have a desk job and will only be going in for a few hours this next week and see how that goes.
Mostly I am just tired, not much pain. I was a big walker and into yoga before the surgery and I really think that is helping me recover quickly.
On my problem, I would have called the Dr today but he had told me Monday that he was going to be out of the office all day today. There is another dr at the officce but I dont care for him. Since the pain isnt bad and it obvious I'm not hemoraghing I would rather wait for my wonderfull surgeon to get back tomorrow. This other Dr told me to take an over the counter diuretic for my cramps because he was convinced that was the wource of my pain. What an idiot.
FreedomChild82: Thanks but its not hard to pee at all its actualy much easier now then before surgery. I know that because of my past c-sections that he said my baldder and uterus had fused so he had to take extra time and caution and cut them apart. I have had a week stream and slow bladder for a while now. Nothing to tell the doctor about but boy since the surgery I can go like ganbusters with no problem. And most of the time I dont see any blood at all.

Re: Blood in urine starting one week post op
I had microscopic blood in my urine (meaning you could only see it under a microscope) so it wasn't as apparent as yours. I have had 2 bladder infections since my surgery--actually I think the second one just stemmed from the first one because I had only been on antibiotics (Bactrim) for 3 days. I'm now on Bactrim for another week. My Dr. yesterday told me that when you have a UTI there is always some blood in the urine.
I hope yours is nothing more than that. Best of luck to you!
