I'm 6 days post-op and starting to come out of the surgical and narcotic post-op fog. I've got good control of my pain (most of the time), but still very low energy.

My pathology report came back today and am so relieved to find out they *did* find a problem with both my left ovary & uterus. The unbearable pain I'd been dealing with *was not all in my head*.

I can't begin to tell you what a relief it is to know there really was something wrong, despite the fact nothing showed on the tests I opted to do, prior to the hyst. I have a family history of hysts at young ages (I'm just 26) and my sister a few years older was having severe problems and had her surgery the same day. It seemed like the right thing to do, but it is nice to have the problems confirmed.

Hi LadyKeetes,
Glad you are home. You are on the way to feeling better for the rest of time. It is absolutely wonderful for any of us to finally hear that our pain was actually "caused by something real" and not "in our heads." I am 5 weeks post op and am feeling fine pain wise. The low energy and exhaustion will unfortunately be with you for a while to come. That is the only problem I am still having. But I will take that over the everyday pain anyday. Remember to drink lots of water, walk as much as you can stand and DO NOT rush your recovery. You will only have one chance to heal.

I also thought mine was all in my head and that somehow I was bringing on my periods and all my pain.
I had my period striaght from Febuary 2005 till January 2006 with only maybe 2 weeks without thats all.

I also had many tests done and had to drink so much water. They could not find anything wrong so the best choice was to have a SAH. My family also has a history of Hysterectomy's. Every one of my aunt's on my dad's side and my mom all had Hysterectomy's at a young age most before there 30's. I have an aunt who is waiting to go for surgery as she has bleeding problems also.
I just hope it skips over my 4 yr old twin girls, I hope they don't have to go thru what I went thru. It's not fun at all, I never thought anyone could have so much pain.

It is now over and I am happy with my decision to have a SAH. It seems weird not running to the washroom to make sure nothing has leaked.

Hope your recovery is going good. And remember to take things slow and only do what your body allows you to.

Oh yes, water. My husband has had to go out and buy another case of water since I've been home. I'm drinking at minimum 3- 16 oz bottles and usually closer to 4 or 5, every day.

I too am hoping this family history skips my little girl (she'll be 3 in April). She's the only girl between myself & my sister, so *crossing fingers*. OTOH, my daughter will at least have the benefit of a known diagnosis from both her aunt & her mother if she has problems. We never knew anything more than they (grandmother & great grandmother) had hysterectomies at fairly young ages.

I'm taking it *very* easy, except for the tiny fact that I am home alone with 2 preschoolers. No family up here, no money for daycare. Fortunately they're fairly independent (almost 5 & 3) and I don't have to do too much.
