Try all the options first? or straight to a hyst?
good evening ladies, I have scheduled a hyst for March 12,2007 since my post op follow up from D&C. I have a large uterus, lower pelvic abdominal pain, excessive cervical discharge for 7-14 days (usually begins at ovulation) heavy, painful, prolonged periods, anemia, multiple cysts on right ovary and enlarged ovaries, endometrial polyps were found as well as inflamation (pathology report showed) all benign but there still the same. I have been dealing with all this for the past 14 yrs and the last 5 have been the worst. after lots of praying, discussing with dh, my mom and several friends and women on this site.....we have decided the best option for me is the hyst. now the choice is to keep one/both or neither of the ovaries.
wish me luck.

Try all the options first? or straight to a hyst?
I'm FINALLY to see a surgeon this Friday and supposedly he does the LSH. My regular gyn says I'm a good candidate for this, but we'll see what the surgeon says when he sees my test results. I just got my cycle this week (yuk!), but hoping he'll still see me so we can discuss this. I'm 48 and not planning to have kids. I can't see any reason to try the other options, my gyn says they're all temporary fixes for me and my fibroids will probably grow back again. Plus, I have a cyst on one ovary and this surgeon deals with ovarian cysts, also. Hoping I have the same wonderful outcome as Jandybee.
Peanut, prayers are in progress for you!

Best of luck, peanut!
I am sure everything will go well for you.
My D&C is scheduled for Jan. 9th. I started my period on the 13th of Dec, and still have it today! This is after taking progesterone daily? I called Friday since it got really heavy and I was passing clots. They had me go back to 3/day for a week, 2/day for a week, then 1/day for a week. Today has gotten much better.
I'm really intrested to see what the D&C does. This is the first time I've ever had a period for this long!!! The ultrasound showed "many" fibroids, the largest 6cm. I'm thinking, from talking with a friend, that I've had the fibroids for a while, and they have started growing? I go to my pre-op with my gyn next week, so I can't wait to see what he says.
Happy New Year everyone and be well!

Here's my two cents, for what it's worth, ladies. I'm 8 weeks out from my TAH. Except for having been on birth control pills to control the heavy monthly bleeding, my health has been good. Strong heart, no excess weight. I've had heavy bleeding and pain with my periods . So, at my age, I've finally gotten the hyst I needed to return quality to my life. YAY! This was the best thing I did for myself IMHO, and I'm kinda sorry I didn't have it. sooner. My quality of life is excellent and my libido is thru the roof. My doc is a genius and my surgery was easy and complication-free. I guess I have what you would call a success story. I wish you nothing but good things in your future, whatever your decision may be. All the best to you for 2007, sis

Peanut, I am glad you were able to make a choice you are comfortable with. I too had gone around and around with my Dr... The first one I saw did the hormone therapy, biopsy and then again hormone...nothing helped, he referred me to his partner for a Ablation. That Dr required me to try the hormone therapy and a D&C prior to any decisions on the Ablation. He told me that the D&C would help with the heavy long periods.....well it didn't, they got worse. So when I spoke to him again about the Ablation, he said let's just wait a little. A year later...he still wanted to wait?????? Needless to say I went onto another Dr. By this time I had constant bleeding and clotting for over 3 months, My anemia was so severe that I was 0% resistant to any bacteria and virus, limited to home and work with anti-bacteria in tow every where I went. I was placed on a immediate Iron schedule with a Hemotalogist to get the Hyst on schedule.... Well finally some relief,I went from hem of 6 to 10.7 with in 3 weeks and I got the TAH done and feel so much better, I feel better than I did before surgery. You know what they say, hindsight is 20/20, so I should have had the TAH over a year ago. Everyone is different in syptoms and recovery, I hope all is able to cope with these important decisions and the discomfort that goes along with those decisions. Happy New Year.
