Hysterectomy scheduled for November 5 but don't know which surgery

Saw the surgeon (another gyno my group's practice) who does the DaVinci hysterectomy. Scheduled for November 5th for a total hysterectomy with BSO. My diagnosis is adenomyosis.

My doctor is very cautious, which I love. He said he cannot guarantee that I will have the DaVinci surgery but he'll try his best. I'm scheduled for an endometrial biopsy on October 16. Based on those results if I have any abnormal cells no DaVinci at all. But when he makes an exploratory cut on November 5th & my uterus is too scarred then no DaVinci. Either surgery type I'm getting my hysterectomy.

I'm a bit concerned (my only real concern at this point) about the recovery time with a traditional hysterectomy. I don't have 6 weeks to recover with a husband with non-Alzheimer dementia & anxious 16 year old son to deal with when I get home from work. When I had my 2nd c-section I went grocery shopping on my way home from the hospital with a 4 year old & newborn in tow. Then I went back to work (with the baby) a week after he was born b/c I was bored being a home with a newborn. My job is data entering so it's not a problem going back to work quickly if I feel up to it. If I really need to recover I'll go cross town to my parents b/c I'll get no peace if I stay home.

Thanks,
Eileen

Re: Hysterectomy scheduled for November 5 but don't know which surgery

Hi Eileen, hopefully you will get your davinci, but I had an abdominal, and my recovery was pretty easy. I was able to grocery shop, cook and do light cleaning the day after I came home. I felt good my entire recovery and didn't take anything stronger than Motrin. If I were working from home, I could have done it at one week, but others will tell you it takes longer, recovery seems to be pretty individual.

Thank you Coughy16 you've given me hope! I figured since I was very quick to recover from a c-section (also no pain meds except alieve), with a 4 year old & a giant nursing newborn, an abdominal hysterectomy would be so much easier to recover from without little kids needing my attention (the 4 year old is now 20 & far away in college & the giant baby is now 16 & very helpful).
