Having second thoughts...

Hello,

I'm scheduled for a partial hysterectomy and bladder lift on 8/7. And I'm really getting nervous about it. I'm afraid that I'll come out of it in worse shape than I go in. My gyn is wonderful, and I trust him explicitly. My urologist is doing the 2nd part of the surgery..and I'm afraid that it's not going to hold...like I keep reading on these sites.

As far as the recovery time...I cannot imagine how it's going to work. I have a 7 year old and a very clingy 3 year old. I don't know how I will manage one day of not lifting and bending, etc..let alone 6 weeks! At what point do most people start feeling better, and being able to do normal activities?

I guess I'm just really looking for someone to ease my mind...and give me some pointers.

Having second thoughts...

Hi Lynn, being nervous is so normal, this is a big thing to be going through. Not every one has problems with bladder lift, why dont you give the Dr. a call and discuss your concerns with him? That will put your mind to rest.

Now onto the children..... do you have anyone to help? Lifting is an absolute especially in at least the first 6 weeks. There are so many stitches inside ( and out, if you have a TAH ) that need alot of time to heal and this is the only chance you have at doing it right. Lifting too early will cause complications further down the track. As for the clingy 3 year old, well you can still sit on the lounge and give her/him a cuddle. Just no lifting. Absolutely none. Normal activities can be resumed on the advice of your DR, usually at around the 6 week mark. I allowed myself longer as I wanted to heal right the first time.

I hope that everything goes smoothly for you, take care x x

Having second thoughts...

I ma 7 days post-op. TVH Removal of ovaries. I was nervous too. But am glad that I have it behind me. I am doing great. Prepare yourself to have help. Don't overdo and allow friends, family, etc. to assist you. You can cuddle in the bed with your kids. I have been watching movies and reading with my son. He still gets the attention he needs but he is six. You will definitely need help with your 3 year old. With one that young you have to constantly be up and down seeing what they are "into". And you do not need to be jumping in and out of bed. You will do fine. My prayers are with you. Good luck!
