Ovaries aren't removed, can menopause happen?

I had LAVH Jan. 20th. Uterus, cervix and endometriosis were removed but not my ovaries and tubes.
I struggled with some hot flashes and night sweats for about two weeks but then it was gone.
And since 10 days they are back, also insomnia, very dry skin and vagina, my fingernails look different, moods are changing, migraine every few days.
Everything shouts out loud: menopause!

I'm 51, hormones were always a problem, in puberty and since the age of 43.
Can my ovaries be so irritated by surgery, that menopause happens right now?

I went to pharmacy for advice and they told me, Sibirian rhubarb roots is kind of natural estrogen and can help to manage my problems.

Sorry for my unusual English, I'm German and I'm here because there is not such a great support site in my language.

Any suggestions about menopause happening a few weeks after surgery?

My Gyn isn't a help with that. Didn't even tell my about endometriosis probably being the problem fitting with my symptoms.

Re: Ovaries aren't removed, can menopause happen?

Your English is great! So glad that you are able to get the support you need, no matter what the language.

Lots have sisters find that their ovaries "go to sleep" for a while after the surgery. As well, if you were already dealing with menopausal symptoms before the surgery, it's no surprise that they are continuing now.

There is an area on this site for women who are managing menopausal symptoms without HRT (hormone replacement therapy). You might want to see if there is any information there that can also help you.

Take care!

Re: Ovaries aren't removed, can menopause happen?

Thanks so much for your answer, Carole Anne.
I just wonder why Ithere were two weeks with no symptoms in my recovery and then, with a wham! all symptoms showed up at the same time.
I really hoped for some more symptom free recovery time.
I guess, I have to take it as it comes.
Sadly HRT is nothing for me, my body and these kind of hormones don't work together.
Today I've started to take Sibirian rhubarb root extract, which is a kind of phyto hormon, but a new one, different from soy and others. It docks only to the beta estrogen receptors and not to the alpha ones, which is an important difference for people, having problems with HRT.
I hope, it will work for me.

Re: Ovaries aren't removed, can menopause happen?

I wasn't started on HRT until a week after my surgery. I'm not sure if there is a connection, but I do know that estrogen is stored in the body's fat. Maybe it takes a couple weeks to run out of what was already stored. Just a guess, no science to back that up.

Seems logical to me :-) and sadly there is some body fat, especially around my tummy, and I once read that's a favorite place for estrogen :-/
