5 weeks out - constant pain under rib age

Hi all

I am 5 weeks out from a TAH (kept ovaries), and for about 2 weeks, I have been having pain right under my left breast/ rib age. Sometimes it hurts on the right too, but always on the left. It almost feels like something is poking at my diaphragm under my lungs. It feels better when I stand, but hurts more when I sit and it gets worse as the day goes on. Advil just takes the edge off. Yesterday, the pain went around to my back. It helps if I put gentle pressure on the area. I fear that I herniated something during the healing process. I talked with my MD about it and she didn't seem concerned- she thought that it was muscular since it helped to stand, but it's not getting better with time, but in fact, think it's gotten worse. I could barely sleep last night because I was so uncomfortable. Any words of wisdom short of going to the ER? Thanks!

Re: 5 weeks out - constant pain under rib age

This may sound strange, but does it get better with BM's? I have irritable bowel syndrome and my surgery exacerbated it. I take fiber tablets in the am and pm to keep things regulated. Also a heating pad helps as well. Good luck!

Re: 5 weeks out - constant pain under rib age

Odd, I started having the same pains yesterday and they got worse over night. I had LAVH on 9/23. Called doc this AM and she said to take a pain pill and stretch a little bit, prolly from muscles not getting used like they normally do. I have had all sorts of weird aches and pains but they usually go away as fast as they appear.

Re: 5 weeks out - constant pain under rib age

I woke up this morning with a rib cage that felt like it was being squeezed in a vice grip. Very sore. I haven't done anything that could explain this sudden soreness. Very strange.
