surgery tomorrow (eek), some last minute questions
Hi all
Just had a few last minute questions for those who have been there, done that. Having TVH tomorrow - question.......
Surgery tomorrow, sex tonight? Forgot to ask doctor about that one at pre-op - oops
Will I have "swelly belly?
Going to beach for vacation 12 days post op, is that too soon?
How much if at all do they shave?
Will I get to eat same day or next?
Thanks for all the help over the last couple of weeks, I think I would have completely lost it if it weren't for this site!

I had a LAVH on 6/13. I'd ask your doctor about any concerns you have. We had sex the night before (I didn't even think about asking about that one), and my doc gave permission to swim/boat at a lake after 3 weeks (a scheduled vacation).
Edited to add: They didn't have me shave, or shave me. Au naturale!
I'd check with your doc to make sure, though.

((((((Rierie)))))))),
I had a tah so I will answer what I do know.
Yes I had sex the night before.
Everybody gets the swelly belly to one degree or another.
See how you feel post op about the vacation.
If the beach is nearby and you do NOTHING but lie around should be ok . I mean NOTHING !!!!!!!!! Check with your Dr. first.
I got to eat the next day, it depends on the Dr. and how your tummy is doing.
A tvh lady will have to answer about the shave , since I was abdominal I got a little off the top. I believe you get all between the legs shaved, but I am not sure.
Good luck tomorrow,
Pamcat

I had TAH, so don't know the answers to some of your questions, but I can tell you that you'll be allowed to eat solid food as soon as you've passed gas. The nurses seemed more concerned about the status of my gas than they did about any other aspect of my health or comfort - a little disconcerting! I was on a clear liquid diet for 2 1/2 days post op. Be prepared for gelatin and broth.

surgery tomorrow (eek), some last minute questions
Hi Marie, I've read here that quite a few of the ladies have sex the night before their surgery. If you're not sure, call and ask your dr.
Swelly belly varies a lot from person to person, depending on what type of surgery they had. I had a tah/bso and had a lot of swelly belly at first. It hung around for a while but did get smaller day by day. I've read here that some don't get much swelling at all (I'm jealous).
As for the vacation at 12 days - I couldn't have done it myself. That's awfully early in recovery. Please don't try it without approval from your dr. There are usually restrictions on activities for the first 6 - 8 weeks of post op.
Shaving varies also. I've heard that some had all shaved, some none. I was partially shaved, the top 2"( it did look funny - kinda like a goatee )
I had clear liquids only the first day, then soft foods, then regular diet. To be honest, I didn't much want food at first - but I did want coffee.
Best wishes.

surgery tomorrow (eek), some last minute questions
I had sex the night before surgery ... ummmm a couple of times. Nobody told me I couldn't, so I went for it. They clean things up pretty thoroughly before making any cuts anyway, so I figured it would be OK.
I feel a little "poochy" following my TVH, but not too bad. I'm still wearing cotton drawstring pants with no elastic. The most painful thing I do is buckle a seatbelt when I get in the car. I bring a down pillow or something fluffy with me and put it between my belly and the belt. I do not consider riding without a seatbelt.
How far away is the beach? Will you have a comfy bed? Will you be able to lay around and DO NOTHING?? Tell whoever is going with you that you cannot be put in charge of meals or child care or anything. It will still be too soon for you to drive. Go if you are SURE you can sit around and heal. Bring a pile of trashy novels and magazines and enjoy yourself. Have an out if you feel lousy between days 7-10 and don't want to go.
I was not shaved at all for my TVH. Different doctors do different things. I didn't have any bowel prep either, which would have bothered me a lot more than shaving.
I was on a liquid diet the whole day of my surgery and the following morning. They gave me a "solid food" lunch before sending me home. I was told to avoid spicy food and take my stool softeners; I have done the latter but have occasionally slipped on the former.
Best wishes for a smooth recovery.

I had a TVH 6-17
1. I was too nervouse the day before, but had it the day before that... dr never told me I couldnt the day before tho.
2.I had a little swelly belly for about 4 days, and the worst pain I had was from Gas moving around in my intestines.
3.I was fine by the 12th day.... but my dr calls me an over achiever, but tells me the most important thing is DONT LIFT over 10 lbs
4. I shave in general, so I was bald as a babys butt LOL
5. I ate jello and pudding and crackers the first afternoon, but by dinner I was having a normal dinner.... but I was an over achiever, I wanted to go for a walk that night and dr said NO
thats my story, and Im sticken to it LOL good luck.. we will be thinking about you!!!
