Doctor just told me...

...that I will be needing a hysterectomy, and not a myomectomy.

I had a feeling that it would come to this. Both my doctors are staying that I would need it, after one of them diagnosed a hardness on my upper torso as a fibroid during a routine checkup by a new GP. I thought that it was just my colon being compromised by fibroid that was pressing up against it, causing my constipation. Did an ultrasound, and found that it has a clot in it. Second doctor eased my fears, so after I finish some paperwork and meet with my boss, I'll set a date for surgery. I don't think that there's any other option; though I have asked about the new procedure that the FDA just approved, the ExAblast 2000.

I feel miserable; my back is hurting me, and my 1st doctor said that I'm at 36 weeks along after the ultrasound. I should have known that something was up when people (esp. women) were offering me their seats on the bus.

I've just found your site a few days ago, and I do need your support, I'm pretty scared, as I never had surgery before. What would I need?, What books/articles on hysterectomy have helped you? Any sayings/affirmations? I like to know what has help you get through?

Doctor just told me...

Welcome Swannee,

I understand your fears as I had never had surgery either. I had several fibroids from which I developed severe anemia from the bleeding. I highly suggest you read the great advice given here. Everyone is great and eager to answer your questions and someone has had the same concerns you are or will experience.

I had my surgery October 1st and it was the best decision I ever made. I just wished I wound have done it years ago. You will read a lot that the hardest part is the waiting and that is very true. I am eight weeks post-op and leading a normal life again. I also had horrible backaches but have not recurred since surgery.

What helped me through everything is the people on Hyster Sisters and my family.

Take care.
Sue
