30 and long history of endometriosis

Hello sisters. First of all, my name is charlotte, i'm 30, one beautiful son, and a 12 years husband. The only problem in my life is my body.... I had endometriosis removed on my left ovarie at 22. Then had an emergency cesarian section when i gave birth. I had pain again after about 1 years after my c-s, they found endometriosis between my colon and uterus so they removed it on the 27th of december 2007. Then my mistake was to place an iud merinawhile i was asleep in surgery in the same time, so i wouldn't feel the pain beeing asleep. The pain from the endometriosis was completely gone when i woke up but the iud was so painful, but i thought it was normal. The iud drove me crazy after about 3 months, very moody, very irritable, never happy and weight gain... So i removed it about 2 1/2 months ago, soon as the doctor removed it, i felt a change in me and the pain from the iud was gone. So i decided to clean my body of all hormones, no pills, no iud, nothing.... And then my period were regular, kind of, but sooooo painful everyday, big flows and very swollen on the belly. My last period were heavy too, but then when they finished i still had period pain, very swollen and a lot of pain, moving around, one day it's on my left side, the next day, it's on my right side, sometimes it's my whole belly weighing like a hundred kilos... so i went to my gyn with my belly still swollen, and after checking me, he confirm i have a problem with my uterus. So with my history of endometriosis, he suspects strongly that i have adenomyosis. I don't want anymore children and i could really do without hormones and period, and uterus.... I'm thinking on having a hysterectomy. My question is this: Can we be sure to find the adenomyosis with an MRI? And also, i want to let you all know women suffering out ther, i have exactly the same symptoms as you as i have read before, belly cramps, pain on the right side that goes down my leg, migraines everyday, my lower back is very sore, my legs so painful, it feels like i just run a marathon and of course i'm tired.... but i don't have heavy bleeding between my period: Could anyone tell me if it is automatic heavy bleeding or everyone is different? Thanks sisters

30 and long history of endometriosis

Charlotte,
I did not have heavy inbetween bleeding. I also only had light but frequent periods that were excruiciating. Very sore belly, rectal pressure, pain with intercourse. Last summer my doc said"I think you have adenomyosis" I did my own research and YES it can be seen on an MRI. So I had requested that my doc get one. I went to the best radiology place in town and the orders said "suspected adenomyosis" so they kinda knew that's what they were looking for. Lo & behold after my hyster last month the pathology report said severe and diffuse adenomyosis. What a relief!!!

30 and long history of endometriosis

Hi Sillyme. I had my mri done and they didn't find any adenomyosis but multiple folicles on both my ovaries. and a lesion on my right ovarie with bleeding. My doctor is pretty old and very good and didn't suggest for me to do an mri, i looked up the internet and saw a lady there that was diagnosed by mri, although they say sometimes you can't see it on mri. Maybe i just have a little bit and i'm very sensitive.... I don't want anymore kids and my right ovarie has been a big problem in my life, i think i might do a hysterectomy and remove the right ovarie. Keeping the left one, i should be fine. What do you think?

Hi there! Andeomyosis can be found on the MRI. However, at times it can not. The only way to 100% identify Andeo is by a byopsy of the uterus. A byopsy can be done only by a hyst. I am also in a similar situation with endo and andeo and in the process of a hyst. The pain and swelling is unbearable. Did does make you tired and I also get migranes. I had to get a cryoablation because the bleeding was making me anemic. Keeping one ovary is good because it won't cause you to get menopause. Good Luck and see you on the other side.

I am sorry you are hurting and needing to consider surgery.

Have you had a second opinion about what might be best for you?

Both endometriosis and adenomyosis are only 100% confirmed with pathology. At times MRIs can be used to detect adeno and doctors can make educated guesses based on their knowledge and your symptoms.

I would suggest keeing a journal of all of your symptoms and pain issues that you can share with your doctors. I would also suggest learning all you can about both endometriosis and adneomyosis. If the all of your problems are from the adeno, then a hysterectomy could be the cure for you. However, if endo is actually the problem, a hysterectomy will not be a cure nor will an oopherectomy (removing the ovaries).

If at all possible, I would suggst consulting with an endometriosis specialist since you do have endo.

Remember, a hysterectomy is a major, irreversible surgery and there are risks involved. Before having a hysterectomy you want to be 100% sure it is the right choice for you!

Sending s and best wishes your way!
