Re: Food for after surgery

Drink lots of water and keep walking. Purple grape juice always makes me 'go' so I'm keeping it stocked.

Best wishes for an easy recovery.

I ate lots of saltines. I made a little bucket up to keep by the bed on the nightstand. I put bottled water, juice, Hawaiian punch packets, saltines, dry cereal, applesauce cups, magazines, book, pen, paper, sleep mask, etc in it. This way I wouldn't have to get up. I also bought quick, easy foods to fix, microwaveable meals, Popsicles, waffles, my favorite cokes, etc. anything easy to get done so I could go back to bed!

Agree with some posters - as much as convenience foods are nice 'post-op' it doesn't hurt to get up and walk around the house, or stand at the stove or counter for short periods to prepare food.

Re: Food for after surgery

Soup was like gold for me. Wasn't too hungry but Italian Wedding Soup was fab... the broth felt good and the little meatballs were just enough protein with out that heaviness. If you dig liver... go for it. We all lose some blood but again, watch the amount with constipation. Fig jam was great and lost of prunes Remember if you up your fiber a lot you have to up your fluid intake even more to help it all pass through.

Good luck!

Re: Food for after surgery

I got in some vitamin tablets with iron in them just to make sure I was getting enough of what I needed while I wasn't particularly hungry. I later found out I was a bit anaemic post op so I had a nice stake or two to help with that. Any as has been said above avoid anything that constipates you as that is no fun after surgery.
