can I use stairs??
I was told to try to avoid stairs for at least 1 week. I had my DH & kids to get things for me. After 1 1/2 wks, I started using the stairs, taking it very slowly--one step at a time--making sure that both feet were on the same step before I went to the next one. Holdiong on to the rail helped; I didn't pull on it--just to help guide/support. I did things very slowly. For three days--I'll use the stairs once. The next three days--I'll use the stairs twice...and so on... I let my body tell me when I had enough.

can I use stairs??
Stairs were forbodden for me too--but the nurse said that in an emergency, I could go up them one at a time and *backwards* to keep all strain off the middle-tummy! At week2 checkup they'll tell me if I can go upstairs or not. good luck, ladies!

can I use stairs??
My dr did not say anything to me about stairs, TAH with vertical incision. My husband would not let me go upstairs for 3 days, finally, I wanted to sleep in my own bed, so he let me go upstairs, very slowly, with my son behind me and him in front of me. I took 1 step at a time, and I was fine. I made 1 trip up at night, and 1 trip down in the morning, and spent my day on the couch or in my daughters bed. It was about 2 or 3 weeks before I could go up more than 1 time, my husband would not let me. if you are unsure, call your dr, they all have their own ideas about what it best. Good Luck

can I use stairs??
I had a TVH and I was allowed to go upstairs right away--just one step at a time. I couldn't sleep downstairs and it didn't take long for me to decide to try the stairs.

can I use stairs??
My doctor said that it was fine to do stairs, but of course to take it easy. My doctor said that a lot of the rules were from way back in day when the techonolgy was different and recovery was different. Just like women used to stay in the hospital for over a week for births and hysterectomies but now we get out in 2 to 3 days with no complications. Times have changed for the better. I had no difficulties with stairs, walking I did get a bit winded, but slowly picked up my pace. I am going into my 4th week and have been fine. I have my follow up in 2 days. My main questions will be insomnia and weird dreams.

can I use stairs??
I had a TAH almost 5 weeks ago. I was able to do stairs the day I got home from the castle. I just took it very slow, and it was fine. Everyone is different. Best wishes on your recovery. Take care.

can I use stairs??
I was told at the P.A.S.S. Clinic before my surgery that I couldn't use steps for two weeks. I was concerned due to the fact that we live in a Bi-Level house, the only way in or out is by using stairs. After my surgery my Dr. and I discussed things before I left the hospital. He said ok to use them to get inside, go very slow and two feet on each step etc, after two weeks ok to use them slowly more often. (I had inside and outside stitches.) It took some getting use to using the stairs slowly but, after my two weeks were up I began to move around more and as time went on I used the stairs as my exercise! Two of my friends had VH and they were told no stairs for 1st week also! It is best to double check with your Dr.
Good Luck with everything!
