How much discharge is acceptable?

I had my hysterectomy 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I did a week of recovery at home.

I started back doing 'half days' (which was more like 3/4 days) on Monday. And I started getting a tinge of pink discharge on Monday.

It's been getting pinker daily to today, when it's almost red. It's not heavy, but it is increasing as is the 'redness". I've also been having increasing abdominal pain as the day goes on. (It's not excruciating, but with everything else happening, makes me concerned.)

I called the docs office on Tuesday - concerned getting new symptoms a week in. She said it was normal to have some discharge.

I know everyone is different. I don't want to drive my doctor's office crazy with concerns - but why am I seeing more and more blood now? Should I go back to bedrest?

How much discharge is acceptable?

I'm so glad you asked this. Our surgeries were on the same day. I'm still have drainage, more pink than red. I've stayed horizontal two days in a row now, and while there's less, the color hasn't lightened up. I have a post-op appointment tomorrow and will definitely ask about this, but I've been worrying, too.

How much discharge is acceptable?

I really didn't have much discharge at all after my surgery, however, I would have some if I over did it. You don't say what kind of hyst you had but going back to work 1wk after-wow! I think I would take it easy and see if that doesn't seem to slow the bleeding. It really sounds like you are pushing your body.

How much discharge is acceptable?

I had uterus/cervix removed laproscopically. My doc said I'd 'be up and running' after a week (said before the surgery). So, after a week of bedrest, he seemed sort of surprised that I asked to be released back to work. He's seemed rather non-chalant about everything...

The discharge isn't heavy - but it's been increasing and I had none prior to going back to work. The increasing pink to red concerns me, as well as the pain.

I'm going to bedrest it all weekend and see how that turns out.

How much discharge is acceptable?

I had the same surgery (called a LAVH) and it took me 10 weeks to get back to work. I wasn't ready at the end of my 6 weeks that the doctor recommended. I was reading your other post and you have gone through way more than I did. You really do need some down time after surgery so that you don't get any more complications. Maybe not 10 weeks, but another 2 would be good.

Take care of yourself and hang in there.
