Surgical Schrapnel???

Hey All!!

I haven't been here FOREVER!! Hope you all are doing good and those early in your recovery are taking it easy and not worrying too much!

On 6/5/09 I will be one year post op and pretty much had a successful surgery. Somewhat of a difficult recovery and lots of meltdowns. I have had some intermittent pain now and again, but nothing too severe.

I have been having lower back pain for a while and went to my GP to get checked out. He did an xray of my lower back and when he went over the results with me, he asked me if I had ever had abdominal surgery. I told him I had a hysterectomy and he pointed out a rectangular object in my pelvic cavity. It was approximately 1 1/4 inches long by 1/4 inch wide.

So riddle me this...

Is there ANY reason whatsoever that should be there? I can't get in touch with my OB/GYN for another couple days.

I still have my ovaries and only my uterus and cervix was removed.

Thanks in advance!

Jessica

Re: Surgical Schrapnel???

Umm sounds like a needle to me other than the retangular shape. I mean, it's not that long to be a clamp. Definately sounds like it does not belong there.
Have you been visited by aliens???? lol

Re: Surgical Schrapnel???

That's great what you said about the aliens! I told my husband that maybe that is what happened!

I did a search on some very old posts and read about "ligaclips" which are left inside, used to clamp off a blood vessel instead of suturing it and are permanent.

So I will put my worries to rest for now! I've been obsessing over this since my GP showed me the xray then called me again about it!

Ah, thanks for the giggle, I needed it!!!!

I also need to get caught up on here as well!

Re: Surgical Schrapnel???

Did you get a copy of your surgical report? I know some of the girls on here have, and if you did, perhaps there is some clue in there as to what this alien item may be?
I do hope you find an easy answer to your back pains. I have had upper back pains for years, but that is due to a congenital problem. I am now six weeks post-op, and if I don't wear something to support my tummy, I get terrible lower back pains. I am guessing this is due to my posture, and I am hoping that once I have strengthened my abdominal muscles again, the back pain will become a non-issue.

Good luck in your search. I am guessing that since you mention you haven't been on this website in "forever", that things are going well for you otherwise? What a great inspiration to the ladies that are just now struggling through their recoveries!! Wishing you continues success!

Re: Surgical Schrapnel???

I am amazed that any GP would find a foreign object on an x ray then not tell you what it is....maybe you had better call and find out more information.
