Total abdominal hysterectomy and BSO on Dec 18 2014
Hi,
I had my TAH and BSO Dec 18 so yesterday (jan 8, 2015) marked 3 weeks since the surgery. I am late to posting here.
I am finally back in my own home. I was in the hospital for three days, and went to my mothers for 2 weeks. Since I am single and live alone we felt it was best for my mental and physical well being for the holidays. It was a good idea. I just turned 51 a few days ago and although I am usually independent, it was very difficult to be taken care of. My mother and sister were very helpful. I am now home alone (although I have an excellent support system) and am trying to get back to normal but not do too much.
I am still in pain although my doctor told me that everything is healing as it should. I am not taking pain meds for two reasons, 1. they never really helped and 2 they caused major problems with my digestive system. I am still trying to get back on track and I have only been on motrin since before Christmas.
I have found that laying in the bed and sleeping is the most painful which is unfortunate because I am not sleeping well and could use more sleep. The pain is concentrated in my stomach area now. I am noticing a strange abdominal numbness yet it tingles, hurts and is tender to the touch. The incision is also still tender. I just finished a round of antibiotics to either address an already present infection or to prevent an infection. I developed a hardness around the incision that the doctor said was my body fat reacting to being cut and put back in place! (gasp!!!)
Anyway now that I know this board exists I will check it regularly as I have a few more questions about where I am and where I should be. I am scheduled to go back to work in five more weeks. I am praying that it gets better.
Have a great day.

Hi OllieMae and welcome to this wonderful community!
Sounds like your healing is coming along nicely. Have you tried using lots of pillows in your bed when you sleep? Placing them between your knees and under your incision (when you sleep on your sides) might be helpful and allow you to get more comfortable. As far as your incision goes, I will be 6 months post op on Jan. 15th and my incision is still numb and tender in places. I take my recovery day by day, don't worry, you will feel better and better as time goes by.
Gentle ((hugs))

I forgot to add that you can see how other ladies are doing that had their surgeries around the same time that you did by going here:

Thank you for your encouragement. Last night I cried out in pain from twisting. I am beginning to think that laying flat on my back is the best for me although the thought of it is overwhelming. sigh.... i just have to be patient I guess.
