No Hormone treatment!
I am scheduled for a TAH and BSO on the 24th March. With a history of Breast Cancer I will not be prescribed HRT and due to the surgery am likely to have a surgical menopause. Can anyone advise when it would be best for me to start using alternatives- i.e evening primrose and vitamin E? Would it be best to start this before surgery or wait until after? I would welcome advice from any of my sisters who have already experienced menopause without Hormones Thanks.

Hi Geraldine, sorry I can't answer your questions. You should read the section on Hormone Jungle on this site (purple tabs at top of page). There are probably answers to your questions. Good luck to you.....Frenchie

No Hormone treatment!
I am less than a week out, and I am doing it without hormones. So far it is not too bad. My doctor wanted me to wait until we see how my body reacts before we start looking at treatments. I think it was good advise. Removing the pressure of making a hormone decision right away helped me during pre-op too. Each person is different, but think if you wait to see how your body reacts to sugical menopause, you will know what you need to treat and what you don't.
Talk it over with your doctor, he/she should be able to offer advise for alternatives also.

No Hormone treatment!
Hi,
It is important to discuss anything and everything you take or wish to take before your surgery with your dr. Medications, herbs, vitamins, may affect your surgery negatively and could cause problems.
I would discuss this with your dr before you have your surgery.
My dr had me get off most herbs and some vitamins before my surgery. Please check with him on which ones are okay to take.
Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.
