Aha. I'm a tax preparer myself. Leave the returns alone until you feel up to doing them, because if you try to do them in your current state of mind, you'll probably mess them up. :-)

I live with chronic depression. One thing I've learned in recovering from active depressive episodes is that it's important to celebrate the small things. If you have just enough energy to get out of bed, put on clean clothes and eat something, then that's great! That's worth celebrating! Even if you go back to bed immediately afterwards.

Beating yourself up for what you can't do definitely doesn't help you recover. Celebrate whatever you *can* do instead.

Re: People giving advice post hysterectomy

Try not to beat yourself up over not doing things. When I had my surgery I was trying to push myself into doing things faster and pushing myself into doing more and more. Well I learned my lesson when I ended up in the hospital for over a week. I ended up in the hospital two times in my recovery for two weeks of total bed rest and over the next year it happened again. I have multiple medical problems and it took me at least two years to totally recover and that was after having to go to major medical clinics to get the best help for me. My doc had told me that I would recover in three weeks and kept telling me how I was supposedly such an anomaly. Not really as I found out here. If you have any other problems which a lot of us do it may take a while to recuperate. That was what took me a long time.

Re: People giving advice post hysterectomy

Or how about the you need to get off the pain pills three days after surgery??? You need to be more happy and smile more. You need to do all these things but don't know the details of what is going on. I just realized my doctor and I knew my pain pill use and I got off them before week two only to get an infection and have to go back on them but then got off of them again. If I was still on them a year later and fully recovered maybe she could have said something. But really three days????

Re: People giving advice post hysterectomy

I was so thrilled to be off the pain meds at day 3 and then the BMs started happening. But I took that as a sign that I could get on with my life and went for walks ran errands and went out one night. Now I have a new pain and am back on the pain meds with constipation returning. Now I have insomnia and I might try a new thread on that.

Re: People giving advice post hysterectomy

I can relate to everything everyone has said. I want to add something about people rewriting history after the fact...
SOOOOOO tired of being invalidated with comments about how it wasn't that bad after all, that I "made so many gains so quickly" and other ridiculous comments that see what was an EXCRUCIATINGLY DIFFICULT time I had recovering from my hysterectomy, with setbacks, complications and all through rose colored glasses.
IT WAS HARD. Period. I will not let anyone take that away from me.
Thank God I had Hystersisters to inform me and support me before, during and after my hysterectomy.
:-D

Re: People giving advice post hysterectomy

Probably nobody saw you during the hardest parts because you were either in the hospital or confined to your house. People don't usually walk around chatting and socialising when they're in extreme pain.

Nope, this lovely nonsense was from my "boyfriend" who was right there witnessing it all first hand.
