Leaving cervix for endo to get?
Hi girls~
I'm so thankful to find this site. I have searched long and never found anything so great.
My question is: If I leave my cervix (scheduled for Jan.8th) would I be leaving the endo something to grow on? I can keep it or throw it and I am SO confused about the pros and cons. Anyone know them?
Thanks so much~
Peg.

Leaving cervix for endo to get?
I have or can now say that I had Endo. It was pretty bad!! The Dr that did my TAH/BSO with a (abdominal cut) told me he wouldn't be doing me any favors by leaving my cervix in. He said that chances are I would be back with issues. Also he said that from his exams chances are when he went in there it was cover with endo anyways and would be coming out. He is the number one specialist in Mn on endo and I have a lot of confidence in his knowledge. When I went in for my preop and talked to him I let him know my concerns for me is that I didn't want to go back in a year later for more endo removal. From the hospital reports that I read there was nothing to save it all was glued together with Endo and was quite the mess. I hope this will help in some way.
Good luck

Leaving cervix for endo to get?
It is my understanding that the cervix does give endo a place to grow and you could end up having to have more surgery to remove the cervix at a later date. Having said that, it is a personal decision and one to made by you and you alone if you are given the option by your doctor. Personally, I do not miss my cervix even though I was concerned about losing it.

Leaving cervix for endo to get?
I agree with the other sisters, so many with endo end up having the cervix taken out anyway and your surgeon will go in and see so much endo he would have to remove it anyway, and if he didnt months down the road you would be in the castle again just to have it removed, do it all at once so you only have 1 recuperating time instead of possibly 2, I am glad its out I really dont miss it, and when you have endo it really could hurt later.
Listen to the sisters its not bad the 1st week is the worst afterwards it gets easier and easier the flu is just as bad.

Leaving cervix for endo to get?
Peggeez3,
I think you should talk to your doctor about the differences between if you keep your ovaries or not and how that might affect your endo and the cervix, and how keeping your cervix would or would not be affected by HRT (if you can take it). I had endo (they discovereed during surgery), but the doctor left my cervix, as we agreed he would leave anything healthy. Since I also had my ovaries removed (where most of the problems were), I can't do HRT for at least 6 months.

Leaving cervix for endo to get?
My Dr said the same thing that Purple Angels did. Endo can grow anywhere I did have some nodules of endo on my cervix so it went. If you are keeping your ovaries the endo can continue to grow on your cervix and on your ovaries.

Leaving cervix for endo to get?
I have to agree with all the ladies here...endo can grow on cervix also..basically anywhere it wants to. I just had surgery about 5 weeks ago and now need to go back in to have the one ovary he left in taken out. Wish he had done that the first bout around. Am really regretting my decision to leave the "healthy" one in now!
Best wishes to you and 's

Logical Pros and Cons of Keeping the Cervix
Peggeez3,
One thing that you may want to consider are your actual risks in keeping the cervix, depending on if you keep your ovaries or not. Your doctor and research can give you informed statistics about those risks. There are risks on both sides of every decision:
RISKS OF KEEPING THE CERVIX: Possible endo growth, pain, further surgery on cervix for endo or other problems
BENEFITS OF KEEPING THE CERVIX: Helps to keep bowel and bladder in place, (possible) benefits to sexual experience (still debatable and being researched), no problems with vaginal cuff
RISKS OF REMOVING THE CERVIX: Possible prolapse of some organs like the bowels or bladder, problems with incontinence, urinary discomfort, further surgery on bladder or bowel
BENEFITS OF REMOVING THE CERVIX: No endo growth on cervix, no pain from endo on cervix, no further surgery for endo on cervix, no risk of cervical cancer
Before my surgery, I had originally decided to keep my ovaries when I went in for my hysterectomy. I did research on the actual statistics on women and ovarian cancer and also on women who needed more ovarian surgery later after having the uterus removed and I was surprised by the statistics I found. That numerical information is what I based my decision on. Unfortunately, I couldn't keep my ovaries because they were both diseased, but I am very happy I made decisions beforehand I knew I would be living with for a long time.
However, I am a big believer in statistical information and numbers over anecdotal information and stories in terms of decision making, as the former is logical and controlled scientifically and the latter is emotional and not controlled scientifically.
Remember that we do not know how many women without problems leave this board and do not come back to report "no problems." Stay logically informed, too.

Leaning
I am leaning on getting rid of my cevix, I guess. This decision is so hard. But I do have endo and I am keeping my ovaries so I am understanding that keeping it might not be wise. My endo has never been bad but I have had it burned out twice so having it is having it. My fear is of the prolapsed bladder and other things shifting where they shouldn't. Does anyone know if the Doc can do a bladder tuck while the hysterectomy? That would sway me towards it even more.
Thanks Bunches~
Peg.
Twice burned Endo, off and on bleeding, CHRONIC pelvic pain, many cysts.
