cramps and Uterine Fibroid Embolization

Hi,

I am still trying ot decide between a hysterectomy and a uterine fibroid embolization. Although I do have a bleeding issue it is the cramps and backaches with every period that get me more than anything else. I do have several small fibroids in the lining and lots of adhesions in my pelvis but I am not sure which is causing all the problems. Does a UFE take care of cramps and backache?

Thanks,
Joanna

everyone is different. The statistics say that embolization should help most people. I had one but it really didn't help me at all. At 6 months there should have been a significant decrease in the size of my fibroids - but alas nothing. So 11 months later I had a hysterectomy and I wish I had had it 5 years ago...

cramps and Uterine Fibroid Embolization

I had a UFE December 20th, 2007. I didn't have cramping. I had wonky periods. I had 3 periods in October (3 5 day periods with 3-5 days between). "Normally" my periods were from 20-27 days apart and they lasted a long time (needing protection for 6-8 days).

I had one fibroid (9.4cm). My interventional radiologist ordered an artery study (or something like that) when she ordered my preop MRI. It told here where all of the arteries were, so make sure she got the ones that were feeding my fibroid.

I can't say if UFE will take care of your pain. I can tell you that I had post-procedure cramping when I got my period in January; but my body was still adjusting to the fibroid shrinking.

All of that to say, I don't know.
