Bowel prep - magnesium citrate

Ok, my OB/GYN has never mentioned a bowel prep. Does it depend on the type of hysterectomy you are having or is it a personal preference chosen by the doctor? Just curious.

Most OB/GYNS err on the cautious side and want empty bowels in case they poke something. I took the "jug" for about 3 hours, then it started to work for about 3 more hours. You know when you are done when all that's coming out is clear. OK, I'm a little warped, but I thought it was so much better than a typical bowel cleanse you can buy from the store. I'm tempted to have another one prescribed to me just to get rid of the holiday meals! Best of luck to you. I'm very proudly wearing my princess shirt today and am thankful I went through the procedure!

Elise~
You will start to have clear fluid coming out as it is finishing up. I started my prep at 3:00 like Kit did and wished I had started out a tad earlier--like 1:00 or so instead. Good luck (its really not so bad).

My doctor is having me start at 10 am. I guess I won't be preoccupied with hunger during the day. hahaha
Sewcali, It seems to be doctors preference wether or not to prep

Bowel prep - magnesium citrate

I put my bottle in the refrigerator the night before and chugged it down in a 30 minute time period. What I did was I had several bottles of water, baby wipes, lots of toilet paper, a small cover, phone, cell phone, book, and tv remote in the bathroom with me. I also had a chair in the bathroom to sit all of the items on so I wouldn't have to bend over everytime to get them. I sat on the toilet for a total of 2 1/2 hours once things started moving......and when my bottom got tired of sitting, I layed in bed with a pad on in case I had to run to the bathroom.
When things start slowing down and feel bubbles.............you will know when it's beginning to come to an end..........no pun there!!!! lol. When necessary, use the baby wipes instead of toilet paper and make sure to put them in a garbage bag so that your bathroom won't stink while you're busy sitting.......Good luck

I had to do 2 bottles of mag. citrate, one at 12 and another at 3 pm, followed by 2 fleet enemas, one at 6 and another at 8 pm. All was well before bed time. I just kept myself distracted with good books and writing in a journal, and let my body do its thing. It wasn't nearly as bad as I had thought it would be. In fact, this whole experience has been better than expected.
