Re: 3 days post op swelling

It wasn't for me. You might want to check with your doctor as you could be having an allergic reaction to something.

Re: 3 days post op swelling

I would not expect that much swelling. It sounds like an allergic reaction to something. I would call your doc and tell them what is happening. If you are getting that much swelling, you may need to go to ER or see him first thing in morning. The one caution I would give is that if you have any problems with breathing or swallowing call 911 immediately. I have developed allergies that start as swelling and end up with me in hospital. So monitor it closely. Hopefully it is nothing serious.

Re: 3 days post op swelling

Is there an after-hours number you can call for advice? I would also suggest calling your local ER or urgent care, or triage line, just in case. If you have any Benadryl at home, try taking some of that; if it's an allergic reaction, that should help. And Benadryl doesn't react with other medications, but do check with your doctor anyway.

It could also be fluid retention. How is your urine output? Is it better if you sleep with your head elevated?

Hope you find the answer soon!

3 days post op swelling

Just spoke with the doctors office and they said probably some fluid retention. I am having no leg or chest pain so that is good. They said might have for about a week so unless I have other symptoms it's ok.

Re: 3 days post op swelling

Glad you called, and thanks for letting us know! I'm having quite a bit of fluid retention as well. I'm trying to drink lots of water (I know it seems counter-productive but it helps flush everything out) and avoiding sodium. It seems to help a bit.

Best wishes!!

Re: 3 days post op swelling

Glad to see you were able to get to talk to your docs. That does sound reasonable that it is fluid retention. Did they suggest that you limit salt or anything or feel like it will just resolve by itself?? Hope you continue to recover
