Lack of energy and very emotional

Hello all!
I have to say that my hysterectomy went GREAT! I had mine on December 14th. I was up and walking around that evening at the hospital and I didn't need any pain medication! It was amazing! My doctor said I am a trooper! She took out everything! Ovaries, uterus and tubes. My uterus was the size of a woman who is 4 months pregnant and filled with fibroids. They had to cut it apart to get it out of me. I had mine done laparscopically and it was really pretty good!

The worst thing that I have had is that I am a diabetic and my sugar levels have been high (still!) so therefore my belly button incision still isn't healed all the way. It oozes some and it's just now starting to get some scabs. Today it was 3 weeks and I have had hot flashes but I had them before the surgery so I just deal with them. HOWEVER.... the last 2 to 3 days have been awful emotionally! I am exhausted and tired and I went back to work today. I am a guidance counselor in an elementary school. I really didn't do a lot today but I feel like I need to sleep!!! Have you all had a hard time regaining your energy level? I may have done too much right after surgery. I drove to Florida by myself for about 6 hours but I felt okay after the driving. I thought I might have lost a little more weight but only lost about 4 pounds. Ugh! Can you all tell me how long the emotional mood swings last? I already take Cymbalta for depression but I hate the uncontrollable crying over nothing and my boyfriend is getting the blunt of it all! What do you all think????

Re: Lack of energy and very emotional

SCPrincess,

It also took me awhile to get my energy levels back in check. Even though I felt great after my lavh/bso, I was always exhausted. I think that when you are having an easy recovery it is easy to forget that your body still has a lot of healing to do. That aside, my doctor lets me take b12. You might ask your doc if this is something worth considering if your energy levels do not return in a few months.

In regards to being emotional, it is completely normal. Again, having an easy recovery makes us forget how much our body has/is going through. Hopefully as the weeks pass your hormones will level out. Having dealt with depression in my past, I would keep a close eye on yourself. It is very easy to "sink" to the bottom. Especially when dealing with major surgery. I do not have any experience with Cymbalta but perhaps calling your doctor would help? Maybe they can tweek your dosage or something for the time being?
