sisters....another silly question. I am scheduled for a tvh on october 28th but i failed to ask Doc if it will be laprascopically assited? Now ....i was wondering.....are all vaginal hysertectomies done with a laprascope??? Is that just a given? If they are not...then how else can they see up there if your ovaries are okay...if you have to have soem severe endometriosis removed....if not with the help of a laprascope...how can they tell if you have adhesions on your bladder, bowels ect??? I just presumed that mine would be laprascopically assited and am a bit confused now? Could any of you shed some light on this? I am just alittle confused and nedd some clarification. What would I do without all of you sisters?

TVH

Hi, I had a TVH 4 weeks ago tomorrow-no LAP. He removed my cervex and looked around and then did the snip-snip stuff. I believe they use a scope or something that way to see everything and if they find something suspicious will add the lap or go in abdominally for more extensive measures.
I was lucky, ovaries and everything else were fine, so just a simple TVH. I had had my gall bladder removed with a large incision years ago and was very relieved not to have to have that to heal up from again.
Be careful with the TVH, though. No visible scars doesn't mean that you don't have as much healing to do, so take it easy.
BTW, 4 weeks now, and I'm already happy to have done it. I've already missed one period. All of the discomfort I've had over four weeks probably adds up to what I would have experienced in 2 periods, so I'm halfway paid up.
Good luck, we're all in this together!

Hello -- no I think most vaginal hyst are NOT lap assisted. It is much more expensive and not all surgeons are trained in it, I believe. With me, they did two ultrasounds and took very close look at my ovaries that way before deciding not to go abdominal. I had a TVH 8 weeks ago, and I guess it might have been nice if they'd had a camera poked through checking out every little thing. But since my recovery has gone so well, I'm not going to worry.

As long as you be sure and ask your dr all your questions, I'm sure you'll be well satisfied with how it goes. Good luck!

Take care, Teena

Thanks Teena and Bee,
That helps me anticipate what is to come. I guess they sometimes don't know what they are in for till they get in there. I did have a ultra sound and a vaginal ultra sound before I met witht he specialist so all must look good as he did have the results there. He just mentioned that my uterus was tilted, enlarged and that I had many fibroids attatched and that altho it would be a bit tricky he was confident that he could do the surgery vaginally. At that time I was not too educated on terms and hyster "stuff" so I really wasn't aware of laprascopic assited VH. so I am confident that all is well...I trust his judgement as he is highly regared and has a n excellent track record. so I feel good. You guys are all terrific!

Hi Corni,

My hyst wasn't laparoscopically assisted, either. You might want to call his office and ask what he will do if he isn't able to do yours vaginally - will he use a laparoscope to assist or will he change it to an abdominal? That way you would know in advance what the possibilities might be.

As long as you have confidence in him, then you'll be able to trust him to do what's best for you.

Hi Corni,
I don't know how curious you really are, but the website www.pelvicfloor.com has pictures of a TVH being performed. WARNING!!! THESE PHOTOS ARE VERY GRAPHIC. You may or may not want to check them out. But if you're curious..........I'm thinking about you. We not only have the same symptoms, but our castle dates are only 2 days apart.

Oh hun you sound in a panic. LOL Slow down and take some deep breaths. If you have been told you will be having a TCH then it will NOT be lap assisted. I had a LAVH/RSO which is a lap assited hyst. I had severe endeo prollapsed uterus and bladder and fibroids. All went well. I do not know how they would be able to properly tell how bad any endeo etc is without lap assisted. Please chat with your DR and get him to explain the whole procedure to you. Make sure you feel happy about it and understand everything that will happen. All the best mate for your big day. It feels great now to be on the other side and i know that it will for you also. Take care and hope we have helped. hugs Vicjki
