LSH - pain meds and hrt
I am having LSH removing both ovaries. Did you have a morphine pump after this procedure or is it not needed since this is a less invasive procedure? I had already stopped having periods 2 years ago. Why would the doctor suggest hrt after surgery? I never had hot flashes before, can I expect them now?

LSH - pain meds and hrt
Each doctor has different preferences for pain management for patients. You can ask your doctor what s/he will prescribe for pain management and discuss your preferences at your pre-op appointment.
As the ovaries can secrete trace amounts of hormones even after menopause, it is possible that you will experience surgical menopause symptoms once your ovaries are removed. The symptoms may occur right away or a few weeks following surgery, depending on when all of the residual hormones leave your system.
Your doctor could be suggesting HRT for the above reason or numerous other reasons based on your specific health situation. If you are not sure why HRT is being suggested or whether or not it is the right option for you, talk to your doctor prior to surgery. If you do not want to wait for your pre-op appointment, call and schedule a consultation type appointment so you can sit down and discuss all of your questions and concerns!
Sending best wishes and s your way for a successful surgery and smooth recovery!

LSH - pain meds and hrt
When I had my LSH and remaining ovary removed, I did not have a pain pump. I took one pain shot when they moved me into my room from recovery and then one vicodin my first night home from the hospital. Other than that I had no need for any pain medication. My Dr. had told me ahead of time that I probably wouldn't need a pain pump and he was correct. He did say however if I found I needed it after my surgery it would be available for me. I would ask your Dr. ahead of time, as each Dr. is different and has their own preferences for pain control.

i had some shots of morphine in my i.v. when i needed it, i didnt have the pump. even though you havent had a period for 2 years, your ovaries still supply you with small amounts of hormones. you will go into surgical menopause once theyre removed...whether or not you have symptoms or not, you just wont know until after the surgery. good luck with your surgery and i hope you have as easy of a recovery as i had!

LSH - pain meds and hrt
When I had my LSH, I did not have a pain pump. I had some morphine shots in recovery and the first night in my room. I went home the next day with a prescription for Vicodin that I didn't really need to use many of. It is different for everyone. I had very little pain and felt great after a week.
I am on HRT, but was not menopausal prior to surgery. So, I won't even attempt to talk about that
