4 weeks post-op. Is this what it's supposed to be like

4 weeks post op and I feel worse than I did at 1 week post op. It started around 2.5 weeks and been getting worse since. Pain, achiness, cramping, pulling, shocky twinges, swelling in joints, irritation of incisions (and one incision infection), and this EXTREME exhaustion.

I used to sleep for 6 hrs and go go go for 18 hrs. Now....I sleep for 18 and sit around waiting for the next nap for the other 6. Preparing a simple meals drains me. Washing 5 plates drains me. Showering and getting dressed drains me. This can't be normal I'm no princess...tomboy since birth. I preferred to shovel snow, push a wheelbarrow, build a deck, lay sod, and dig in my garden over anything else. Now the thought of checking the mail is overwhelming. I feel useless and lazy and not at all myself. From top to bottom i'm a wreck. Headaches and generally fogginess in my brain...sometimes not even able to say what I'm trying to say. Back pain. Unending soreness and cramps in my midsection/pelvis. Swelling in my knees ankles and feet and sometimes hands. What did surgery do to me

I know this is a 6-8 week recovery surgery as a norm...but the thought that I could possibly have to go to WORK in 2-4 weeks scares the hell out of me since I can barely function as a lazy sloth. I don't know if it's the combination of surgery, meds, menopause symptoms, the infection of one of my incisions (although almost cleared up now)...or something else. I have a post op appt tomorrow and hopefully can be offered a positive outlook for the near future.

I don't have the answers as I'm 3 weeks post TAHBSO and feel some of the things you are feeling. Today I felt the worst and have been in bed all day. From what I read it does take the full 6-8 weeks and sometimes even longer. Hang in there

Hang in there. We had major surgery. I still get completely exhausted after a normal day at 3 months post op Davinci. You have to be kind to yourself. Your body really needs time to recoup and reorganize. You are not a lazy sloth, you are healing.

Re: 4 weeks post-op. Is this what it's supposed to be like

I will be 4 weeks post-op tomorrow and I don't feel great either. I haven't had too many issues but I have been feeling rather nauseous in the afternoon/evenings. It eventually goes away but it's an awful feeling. I started back to work part-time this week and I have been exhausted. I have only been working 5 hours a day but I am wiped out by the time I get home. It doesn't help that my 18 mile drive to work takes 45 minutes to get there and 45 minutes to get home due to traffic. Sitting in a computer chair has been rough too. By 11-12 I start getting achy.

Re: 4 weeks post-op. Is this what it's supposed to be like

I'll be 4 weeks Friday. Kept both ovaries.. Feel almost exactly as you described. Minus sleeping.. I wish I could so bad I wish... My whole midsection feels like it's been beat up. I can't stay on my sides long before it nauseates me. The pain and pulling.. Yeah it's safe to say this is our norm.. Why others are out doing aerobic exercising week one and seemingly ok, I have no idea.. Don't beat yourself up. Your not lazy and you're not the only one that is not 100%.. I get very frustrated too. I almost don't want to hear another woman say shes fantastic at week one/two. But I think even that is normal.. (my bad attitude lol)
I hope the Drs tomorrow gets you some peace of mind.
Big hugs.

Re: 4 weeks post-op. Is this what it's supposed to be like

Lol.. That's funny smh33.. I hear of women riding horses and going for hikes at 4 weeks and I'm like "What the heck?" I'm in my 10th week now and still pretty sore & tender. Went back to work full-time at the 9th week, I have a desk job. Moving very slow.. Every one staring when I walk, asking.. Are you ok? What happened? I know they were just trying to be nice and sympathetic but I just wanted to cry. I worked 2 days and then called off and went to see my doc. I still had a small bulge over my incision that was so sore and hard. So my doc ruled out a hernia. She felt all over my belly and said the tenderness & soreness was part of healing and basically in her own words told me to suck it up.. Lol. OK I can do that, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something wrong inside that I hurt so bad still at 9 weeks. This week is a little better. So hang in there you will slowly see improvement.. Gosh I just walked on the treadmill for 20 mins at 1.2 and that was enough for me.. Crazy considering I was running 6 miles, riding my bike for an hour and going to the gym every day before my surgery. I guess we all heal differently.. But I will be back at it before you know it.. Praise God. Major surgery is tougher on some than others.. Hang in there.

Re: 4 weeks post-op. Is this what it's supposed to be like

Can i join this club? At four weeks with bloated belly, sore beat up pain in tummy and back, fatigue, insomnia. Gas, constipation and a urinary tract infection. Im so attractive! Not. One good thing, today i didnt get a headache and i was able to do bills, and take care of a pile of paperwork, and did some light kitchen work. I really thought I would be further ahead by now.

Sorry you are feeling so exhausted. I was just wondering if you could get your iron levels checked...maybe you are anemic from the surgery. That would definitely add to you level of tiredness. Just try to rest and take it easy.

Re: 4 weeks post-op. Is this what it's supposed to be like

Is there room in this group for one more? . I will be 4 weeks out on Thursday and I feel like crap. No energy, tired all the time, GAS, GAS AND MORE GAS! Crampy, sore and still spotting pink/red at times. I have lost 5 lbs since surgery without trying because I'm rarely hungry and digestion is a mess. The daily headaches are getting worse, so I decided to cut my Estrace pill in half to 1 mg to see if that helps.

I have my post-op on Thursday, so I'll see what my doc has to say about this. I'm just ready to be well.....

Glad I'm not the only one. My family thinks I should be back to normal by now. I'm not.

Re: 4 weeks post-op. Is this what it's supposed to be like

3 weeks post op and feel the same as you do
Tired all the time headaches are terrible and everyday
I am supposed to go back to my desk job on Monday and that has me really nervous
I feel my incision is just as sore as day one
I too feel I should be further along than I am
Now I understand why doctor said 6-8 weeks off work
Take it easy and relax
