Too many complications

Hello,
I am a new hystersister who has had several complications post surgery and I am wondering if there is anyone here who has experienced having infections that followed their surgery. I had the TVH on August 7th, I had internal bleeding immediately following surgery, my blood pressure dropped to 54/30 for approx 15-20 minutes and my husbands voice was the only thing that brought me back. I was re-admitted on Aug 22nd because one of the "pools" of blood that my body did not absorb became infected. The infection was in my pelvis(it felt as though I was in labor) wich was adding insult to injury. They inserted a drain tube, I spent another six days in the hospital, went home with the drain tube, two days later it was removed. I never felt that I was getting any better. On Sept. 5th I returned to the doctor telling her that I did not feel okay, that something was wrong, not really able to describe all that I was feeling. She was telling me that I had a hysterectomy and wasn't going to fell "okay" for a while, to just go home and rest. I insisted on a CBC. At 8p.m. on the 5th she called me and told me to get to the hospital immediately, my white count was 18,000. I underwent laproscopic surgery to remove the rest of the infection. This is the hardest thing I've ever been through. Thanks for listening.

Too many complications

hi,

I have not had any infections, however, I developed a recto/vaginal fistula 2 days after I was released from the castle. So I can relate to the frustration of wanting to be well agian. The one thing that I can say is that I have two wonderful doctors that immediately admitted me the second time to determine that that fecal matter was not draining into my abdomen (TMI) they both took time to sit down with me everyday that I was in the hospital to tell me what was going on and keep me calm. My surgeon does not want to do another major surgery and this will possibly heal on it own. They gave me options and told me to call whenever I had a question or concern. At any rate if your doctor is not listening to you or helping you resolve your issues it is time to find someone that will.

to you and hope you feel better soon

Guya -

All I can say is wow! Oh and this is a great example of why we have to listen to ourselves and not allow 'the experts' to tell us all is ok.

I hope from here you are recovering better. Your road is just going to be a little than some of ours.

Too many complications

Guya, I hope you are feeling better soon. It will be a long road to full recovery so don't rush things and by all means listen to your body. When you are tired you need to rest.
I was readmitted 1 week post-op with an infection. Mine was because I had a collection of fluid in the anterior abdominal wall that became infected. I had a fever, chills and very bad right sided abdominal pain. I thought it was appendicitis. Sadly the infection cleared but the pain never went away. The Dr thinks I have a nerve trapped in the scar tissue from the infection. I have been seeing a pain management specialist and within the past month after my last procedure I am finally beginning to feel better.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!!

Too many complications

Oh, I wish I could come right through my computer screen and give you a big hug. Sounds like you could use one right now.

I also had a hematoma after surgery, but mine wasn't even detected for several months. However, I didn't have a post-op infection like you did.

Infections take so much out of you physically -- be very, very gentle with yourself and get lost of . Your #1 job is to heal right now, and you need to do whatever it takes to get it right.

to you.

I can sympathise with you.1 week after my surgery i was re-admitted with blood clots(they had to re-open a section of my incision to get them out).I was not put to sleep while they did this,i was wide awake(never again). It is now 3 weeks since being re-cut & my incision is still not fully closed & now i have an infection there.I too feel like something doesn't feel right & am off to docs again on monday.I hope you feel better soon.Trust what your body is telling you.
