Ultrasound results: Leaning towards Vaginal hysterectomy

The uterus measures 11.2 x 6.5 x 8.8 cm in dimension. Numerous hypoechoic and heterogeneous myometrial masses are seen compatible with fibroids. The largest fibroid is noted along the left mid uterus measuring 3.9 x 3.9 x 4.0 cm in dimension. Endometrial lining is largely obscured due to numerous fibroids. No definite endometrial thickening is sonographically evident. The right ovary measures 2.2 x 0.9 x 1.0 cm. The left ovary measures 1.9 x 0.9 x 1.7 cm. Nabothian cysts are seen in the cervix. No free fluid is evident in the pelvic cul-de-sac.

Measurements seem tiny from some of the stories on here. I'm thinking vaginal hysterectomy, keeping the ovaries. What downsides are there?

My measurements were slightly larger then yours, I had the DaVinci (kept ovaries and cervix) and am extremely pleased! Good luck!

Re: Ultrasound results: Leaning towards Vaginal hysterectomy

I had the TVH for some of your same reasons. The recovery is the quickest with a vaginal. I went home the same day of surgery. I went back to work 2 weeks later. By my 4th week of recovery, my body felt way better and the fatigue was gone. I dont regret it at all. Not one bit!

Re: Ultrasound results: Leaning towards Vaginal hysterectomy

Thanks everyone!

Kigarro...pretty much the usual...monthly periods have gotten much worse and a lot longer. I so miss those 3 day periods and maybe 2 tampons a day...lol. And usually no pain back then either. Now I swear I think that if I don't start my bc pills on Sunday, I would continue to bleed for the rest of my life! And this business of sitting for a while and then gushing as soon as I stand up?? And those are the good days after the first 2-3 days of pain and agony. No, I don't have appendicitis, it's just those darn menstrual cramps! ugh!

I'm looking at taking the uterus and cervix and maybe keeping the ovaries bc I really don't want to do HRT. I am also reading up on the laparoscopic as well. I am a high school cheer coach and really don't have much time for down time...LOL.

Re: Ultrasound results: Leaning towards Vaginal hysterectomy

I was using up to 17 tampons a day for the first two days of a 8 day period. Then I'd start all over about 3 weeks later, or earlier. Horrible pain that made it impossible to enjoy life. Really not fun when I was a server. I could have gone back to work after a week but I chose to take extra time cuz of the fatigue. TVH was the way to go. I kept my ovaries as well. Good luck to you!

Re: Ultrasound results: Leaning towards Vaginal hysterectomy

Recovery is longer with cervix being removed. Don't let any one fool you into thinking all recoveries are the same. Leaving the cervix means shorter recovery as well as better lubrication and support of the vagina. Only keep your cervix if you haven't had bad paps.

Re: Ultrasound results: Leaning towards Vaginal hysterectomy

So, I have been extremely busy coaching and working. I just had my appointment today and we are going to schedule my hysterectomy on or about April 8th. I can't do it before bc of my cheer schedule, but I can take a couple of weeks off around that time. I am hoping I don't have to take a full 2 weeks. As of right now, I am looking at a TVH...taking the cervix and tubes, but leaving the ovaries. I am just at that point where I want it gone!!
