Re: Triglycerides and cholesterol up??!!

had my hysterectomy about 5 years ago, but do still have my ovaries..

just bc you are thin does not mean you are automatically healthy... what are the cholesterol and tryglyceride numbers?

what is your typical diet like...maybe we can pinpoint something in your diet causing it...

do you exercise?

Re: Triglycerides and cholesterol up??!!

plz list for me your typical daily diet

do eat alot of carbs, sweets, sodas? fast food?

yes, you need more exercise...i usually do 4-5 times per week...weight train 3 of those days.

its not about specific foods to lower your tryglycerides, it about what are you eating now that is causing this?

Re: Triglycerides and cholesterol up??!!

Breakfast- a generally healthy cereal/ soy or rice milk, grapefruit juice( fresh), green tea, Ezekiel toast/ butter or earth balance
Lunch anything left over from dinner which could b anything from beans/ brown rice, a stew, a casserole etc..
I don't drink soda or eat fast food but I will have sweet snacks in between meals
Dinner- same as lunch items

Re: Triglycerides and cholesterol up??!!

my triglycerides have always been on higher side, little low on good cholesterol and little high on bad. Had total hysterectomy in dec and had to go on HRT in jan......my tricglycerides have SOARED.....now over 1700!!!! I am 47 , have PCOS/diabetes but able to come off meds for that since I got weight down. Have watched diet and exercise for years because of PCOS/diabetes. I am adopted but found both biological parents before they died and heart issues on both sides along with female cancers on mother's side. Since levels have been little high since I was young and was watching diet they said my levels of 200 to 400 were hereditary but went from 500 to over 1700 since surgery and HRT!!!!!!! I am in a panic right now. A LPN in my family says it is due to HRT. The cardiologist I saw today said he didn't know.....any replies welcome!!!!!

Re: Triglycerides and cholesterol up??!!

My triglycerides were once 2300!!! From that alone I got severe pancreatitis and was in the hospital for 10 days. I'm thin. Eat sortof ok. And the doctors argued over what to do! One believed it was hereditary and could never be controlled without a cocktail of cholesterol lowering meds - all bad scary meds. My primary care was more trusting in trying some options. And they worked.

Here's what we found affected and worked for me. I take 4 capsules of Lovaza each day. This is pharmaceutical grade (a prescription covered by insurance) Omega 3 fish oil. And I quit the birth control pills. We think the pills had elevated my triglycerides for years. They had been 300 and more off and on for years. These two adjustments, and initially a strict diet, got me as low as 51! Since then I have adjusted my diet to pretty much unrestricted. I get cheese and butter and pasta along with the healthy stuff. And I'm OK.

If you look at the possible side effects of some hormone combinations (particularly birth control pills), they can raise your lipids. Ask your doctor about options. Good luck to you. It's awful, but I don't exercise that much either. It just looks like my chemistry reacted negatively to the bc pills. Maybe it's what is happening to you. They nearly killed me...
