37 and never pregnant, hyst recommended for endometrial cancer

what a long 4 days it's been since i found out about my endometrial cancer.

today is the first day i was home alone with no husband and family so i spent the day googling everything running around in my head.

meeting the oncologist tomorrow afternoon, have no idea what to expect.

i secretly prayed that when i get there, they tell me they made a mistake and the cancer isn't mine. isn't that so dumb?

i am so upset that my husband and i will never have a baby. it's like i can't get away from cute commercials on tv, adorable babies in public, random pregnant women everywhere. it's enough to make me want to scream.

my face hurts from crying. the only reason i found out about the cancer is because we were desperately trying for our first baby to complete our family. 2011 was a rough year and we finally decided 2012 would be THE year. now this year is worse than last.

i have no idea about the stage of my cancer, how soon the hysterectomy will be done, etc.

just so so sad. i feel so healthy, i have no cancer symptoms. the only thing that lead to all this is heavier longer periods. never a wince of pain, never a cramp, NOTHING.

thanks for reading if you did til now. i feel like i have been rambling on and on for days.

Re: 37 and never pregnant, hysterectomy recommended

So sorry that 2012 is not going to be your year either. One thing you will learn, hopefully very quickly, here at HysterSisters is that we always read and many of us are going through some of the same things you are so there will be someone who will understand to some point what you are going through. We will never be able to completely realize your pain as everyone is different.

I am 38 and will be having my surgery tomorrow. Very nervous, but also very ready, physically, to stop my long battle with menstrual issues. I also do not have children so know the pain that the seemingly innocent everyday things can cause. So mentally still working on getting ready. I would urge you to visit a forum called "Aching Hearts" here to see you are not alone in your grief. There are many here that can help, at least they did for me.

I hope for a positive outcome in your cancer battle. I also hope that you can find some measure of comfort in this site as I have. It has been so helpful to me both in terms of knowledge and in comfort.

Shamrock -

I am so sorry to hear that you have been given a cancer diagnosis and how you found out. It isn't dumb to try to wish cancer away. Any of us that have had that diagnosis have wanted to wish it away.

One thing that you can do is stop by our Cancer Concerns forum. We have many women there who have been in your situation. Please discuss with your Dr. the option of preserving your fertility. In young women some Drs will preserve the ovaries. In other cases you may be able to do some egg harvesting for implantation in a surrogate.

Take a deep breath. Cancer is a bad thing. I never had what I thought to be any cancer symptoms either. It is so difficult.

If you need to scream, my personal recommendation is to scream.

Sending at this difficult time.

Re: 37 and never pregnant, hyst recommended for endometrial cancer

My heart goes out to you. I suffered through 6 long agonizing years of infertility. I know first hand the heart ache you're induring. I not only had trouble with commercials, but trips to the grocery store where I'd see other women with their babies and small children became unbearable. I'm 36, so I'm also close to your age. I won't offer you any cliche's or other things people tend to say in order to make you feel better. I just wanted to say I know how you feel and I'll be praying for you and your husband.

Focus on getting yourself healthy. {{hugs}}

Re: 37 and never pregnant, hyst recommended for endometrial cancer

Have you requested a copy of the pathology report?
How bad is your cancer? What stage?
Did you get a second opinion from another lab and a gyn/oncologist?

I hope that you can wait a bit for this.
Maybe a miracle will happen and you will get pregnant, have a baby, and then have your hysterectomy.
If not, trust that you are at least saving your life, as disappointing that the medical news will be.

Hugs.

Bless you heart!! I too have been given the big "C". Grade 1 stage unknown endo. I am 38. Never had any children either. Wow their are a lot of us 30's here. So much for being such a small percentage age growth for this. Please hang in there. Miracles happen everyday. I don't see why you couldn't be one the one's who receive them. My thought and prayers are with you

Re: 37 and never pregnant, hyst recommended for endometrial cancer

Sorry it took me so long to get back, I am going out of my mind.

Thank you all for the kind words and advice.

I have been to 2 gyno-oncologists already. One has suggested I take progestin (?) for 3 months, have another d&c and then have fertility treatments to try and get pregnant before having a hysterectomy.

I went for a 2nd opinion and that oncologist has said the cancer is grade 2 (not stage 2 as it can't be staged til the hysterectomy) and he will not recommend hormone and fertility treatments to anyone that isn't a grade 1.

I am going for a 3rd opinion as I am concerned with the variation in both opinions and treatment suggestions.

I am so afraid not to get the hysterectomy and have it spread but then I am afraid to just throw my uterus out in a panic if there is a chance to have a baby.
