2 months post hysterectomy - phantom ovary??

It's like I have a phantom ovary. I can FEEL my ovary. Feels similar to when I felt ovarian cysts.

I had a complete hysterectomy. I have no ovaries. So how come it feels like I have a right one? Could I have overdone it before things healed completely? I hope not.

Re: 2 months post hysterectomy - phantom ovary??

Hello Ready For Life

The body operates in mysterious ways. In reading previous threads, some sisters have experienced phantom feelings or pains after the removal of their uterus and/or ovaries. Were the cysts you had bigger on the right side…? Perhaps it began to affect any neighboring or surrounding tissues so they too are trying to not only reduce any swelling but also establish new normals.

You are still early in recovery from surgery. Your body was turned upside down during your procedure so it is probably still trying to figure out how to function on a daily basis. It may gradually diminish with time. Keep a journal of what is going on and put a call into your doctor’s office to let them know what you are feeling.

Please let us know how you are doing sweetie!
Sending your way.

Re: 2 months post hysterectomy - phantom ovary??

I had that same sensation years ago when I had just my left ovary removed. It was in the same exact place that I had cysts rupturing since she 14. My dr said there was no scar tissue when she was in there. But I'm with Lisa on this one. I have still felt those sensations for years now and I believe it has something to do with those tissues around it. I know when I'm digesting food and it passes that spot in my intestines that is when I still feel it. I had a lot of cysts rupture over the years and prior to its removal I had a softball sized one rupture and damage nerves and caused my colon to be spastic for about a year which was treated with IBS meds. Even though the dr may not have seen any scar tissues doesn't mean there isn't damage. I understand what you're feeling and it is concerning. Like Lisa stated, make a journal and talk with your dr about it. I hope it gets better for you!
