2 days post-op

Hi everyone,
I had surgery Friday morning and came home yesterday. The day of surgery I slept on and off most off the day. The only hitch I had was that I itched so bad all over. I think it was due to the amounts of pain med I was on. I was given injections to relieve the itch and it worked. It just knocked me out but that was ok too. Yesterday I woke up in the hospital and had my cath removed and my leg circulation pumps removed too. They also took me off my pain med pump and got me up walking. I did really well. I walked all over and was thrilled to eat hospital food! I went home about noon. I layed on the couch recliner most of the day. Today I don't feel as well as yesterday. I feel that I can feel more of the surgery today. But I think it is because I am not as heavily medicated as I was in the hospital. But all in all......things are good!

Re: 2 days post-op

Stay on top of your pain meds honey!! Do it for at least a solid few days...then do what your body needs. Sleep sleep sleep....and congrats on making it to the other side!

Re: 2 days post-op

You may have been allergic to the pain medication.

I was given a prescription at discharge for codeine with tylenol after a surgery I had in the past. I woke up the next day with red marks under both eyes. When I called the doctor's office, they told me to stop taking it and just take tylenol. I found that I was allergic to codeine.

Another time, I was given penicillin with another drug and again found out I was allergic. I was told to stop taking the penicillin. The hives I got from the penicillin didn't go away. I wound up at my allergist's office on the Saturday before Labor Day because I was in so much agony from the itching.

I was never on a pain pump, but had percocet prescribed in the hospital. I was given two pills every 4-6 hours as needed. When I was discharged I was given a prescription for percocet, but only took one pill instead of two. The doctor told me to substitute Motrin IB when the pain wasn't bad.

I hope you have better luck.
