3 months post-op Unable to produce a normal bowel movement

Hello,

I went to see my doctor yesterday re: my bleeding at 3 month after intercourse and I discussed another situation with the doctor. I for the last two weeks have extreme painful bowel movements and I am producing balls of bowel sometimes and sometimes I sit for 30 minutes to an hour with no results at all. It feels as if someone is scratching their nails on the inside of my intestines. I am bloated and have painful gas. I am one that knows her bowels and I was normal before the surgery. I was normal until about two weeks ago. The doctor thinks it is lesions attaching to the intestines.

Has anyone else had this problem???????

Re: 3 months post-op Unable to produce a normal bowel movement

s
Does your doc mean adhesions? I've not heard of lesions attaching to anything..........

I had no problems prior to surgery. Afterwards, my movements were never the same. Many physicians prescribed stool softeners, fibers, the usual, etc. stuff. But, I knew my poop hadn't changed....it was my bowel. It just didn't seem to automatically squeeze things through anymore.

Because I didn't want to rely on laxatives for what appeared to be a new, longterm problem, I went to a Pharmacist. I was given over-the-counter Magnesium Stearate capsules (400mg).......a safe nutritional supplement (NOT a laxative). Within 2 days, I felt the urge, sat on the pot, barely made a single push.....and, out came what looked like a boa constrictor snake!! I don't mean to be gross....... but, I was shocked and thrilled. I continued to take the capsules every night at bedtime. After about a month of daily movements that threatened to clog my plumbing , I was able to maintain by eating a litle yogurt each day.

That all happened 4 years ago. I find I need the capsules for about a week, approximately 3-4 times per year to get back on track.

Always be certain to share with your physician, even if it is mere nutritional supplementation. Take care, Princess.............s.............Deb

Yes you are right, adhesions. My mistake in my blunder. I started taking senakot yesterday, but it makes me gassy and boated. She said if it doesn't clear on its own then I will need to see a gastronologist . If it appears they are attached then I may require surgery to remove the scar tissue.

I am emotional, stressed and frustrated. I always had regular, well formed bowels. I eat alot of fruit and vegies and with that everything was perfect.

I do know what you mean by not being able to push it out. The bowel just don't work.

Re: 3 months post-op Unable to produce a normal bowel movement

You should be able to find magnesium at any pharmacy or health food store. If you want to shop online, look for Douglas Labs on Google. They have "Amino Mag" which my Chiropractor husband says is good.

BTW, 400mg is the recommended daily dose of magnesium for adults, but many nutritionists think that's too low. It's a good place to start. If it's too much, then you'll get loose stools or diarrhea. Milk of Magnesia is an overdose of magnesium.

Re: 3 months post-op Unable to produce a normal bowel movement

Oh just the post I was looking for!!!

I have bowel issues too. It's not that I can't go - but it's not like before. It's a very small amount - especially for the pain it produces in my stomach just prior. I've been taking my stool softners 3x a day and trying to eat well too. I almost feel as if I need a movement like Fibroid Women talked about - I just feel like for the amount of food I've eaten, the BM I've had aren't covering it - plus they are thinner and smaller than normal (sorry!!!) Does this make sense to anyone else?

tryingtodeal - have you had anymore luck in the last week? I need hope!!!

Thanks for listening - it's hard to even talk about this to DH - he just sees the pain I am in. Otherwise I'm doing ok - but this is really frustrating.

Re: 3 months post-op Unable to produce a normal bowel movement

I am 5 months post op & my bowels are not the same at all. I never had gas before in my life & now I live with it everyday. I don't think anything is wrong. I just think my intestines got traumatized.

Re: 3 months post-op Unable to produce a normal bowel movement

Hi,
I read your post and was elated to find that someone else has had this problem with their bowels.
Problem is that I cannot get Magnesium Stearate in UK.
Is there anything else in the Magnesium range that would work. I can get Magnesium Citrate and just magnesium but not stearate.

Any help will be just fabulous thankyou in advance.

Re: 3 months post-op Unable to produce a normal bowel movement

Magnesium Citrate is definitely a laxative.........not good for longterm use. My Pharmacist says that a nutritional supplement of just plain magnesium.......400mg......every night at bedtime, on an empty stomach, should do the trick to get those intestines to start doing their job.

You might be able to order Magnesium Stearate online, from a reputable nutritional supplement company?

Magnesium is not stored in the body...so, if not used, it is expelled.

And..............always be certain to share any new programs....even if just a nutritional supplement....with your physician. Take care.........s......Deb

Re: 3 months post-op Unable to produce a normal bowel movement

Hello,
My endo problem caused my bowel and my right ovary to attach itself and it needed to be separated. The feeling you described is exactly how I was feeling. I couldn't go, but felt like my bottom was going to fall out. I had severe spasms that myself and the doc thought were from the period pain and endo until he performed the Lap to remove the endo. No wonder I was in severe pain i thought. After the VH, 7 days post op. I am still having trouble with my bowels.
I am feeling for you as i know what you are going through.
