D&c

Ladies, I need your wisdom. I met with my GYN and he scheduled me for a D&C to ease, or stop the heavy flow of blood pouring out of me for the past 4 months! He did say I would need to take everything out sometime soon because I have ovarian cysts and uterine polyps. Did any of you wonderful ladies that have already become a princess have the D&C proceedure as a second line of defense? Hormone therapy was the first attack that did not stop the bleeding. I would really appreciate your experience and opinions. Would it be out of line to suggest to my GYN that I want to schedule a visit to the castle a few weeks after the D&C?
Thank you for your advise, the royality here is incredible.

D&c

Hi Cindi, I had a D&C in December of 2000 to try the less evasive approach. It didn't work, so I had to start all the process of reschedualing everything and it took until March to get my surgery in. My D&C did nothing for me, and the hormone therepy I tried first also did nothing. I think that D&C's must work for some. Talk to your doctor. You might want to wait and see for a cycle or two, but if your doctor could get you a surgery date for a little later down the line, then it could always be cancelled. I knew after my first period that mine didn't help any. I'm not sorry though that I tried the less evasive procedure. At least I knew I had exhausted all possiblities. Good Luck.

D&c

It is very common to have a D&C to try and stop the bleeding along "WITH" a hysterescopy to see what they are dealing with. Progesterone and BC pills are also used too. I think it is wise of a DD to try all methods before surgery. I know of 2 epople that D&C's worked for but they did not have fibroids too. Don't worry about having a D&C if it is done with anesthesia. THey really are not that bad at all. I had 2 before caving in to a TAH.

D&c

Cindi,
Sometimes the insurance requires you to have a d&c prior to having a hysterectomy. I suppose because it is less invasive.

I asked to have a d&c to delay having the hysterectomy but the drs told me I was going to have to have the hysterectomy eventually anyway so I would just have to undergo anestesia twice instead of once. So I scheduled the hysterectomy instead.
The hormone and birth control therapy failed me too. I am scheduled to go to the castle on 4/25 due to the anemia from all the bleeding.

I imagine that the GYN would want you to wait 4-6 weeks or longer so undergo anestesia again and also to see if the D&C straightens out your bleeding problems.
Hope you get to feeling better.

D&c

Cindi, welcome to Hyster Sisters You're in the right place for valuable information and lots and lots of support.

I had a D&C with hysteroscopy in December 2000, not as much to stop the flood of blood, as to find out what was causing it. That when my fibroid was diagnosed.

In my case, the D&C did bring relief, for three or four months. That helped buy me time before I had to make a decision for a hyst.

Best of luck and hope things work out for you.

D&Cs

Good questions!

It seems the reasons for D&Cs and their results are just about as individual as we are!

I had two surgical D&Cs: the first one did stop my long, long periods and I did well for over a year; the second one didn't help much at all.

Keep reading, posting and talking everything over with your doctor!!

My best to you...
