3 days post hysterectomy: What is normal urination after Foley catheter?

I was wondering about what's normal after a catheter?

I had a Foley put in during surgery and it was still in when they brought me to my room.

I asked to have it removed and they took it out, it would have been just a couple hours after surgery.

They of course measured my output, and it was good, but I told my doctor that I couldn't empty my bladder all at once, that it took a while of stopping and starting, and she said that was normal, due to the medications I'd been given, and having the catheter in, causing kinks and such.

Last night and this morning it seemed like I was having these weird bubbles while urinating, not a lot of them, but a few. I was wondering if this too is normal or if I should be calling the doctor?

Thank you to anyone who has some insight on this. I don't want to get alarmed over nothing, but I don't want to leave a potential problem either.

Re: 3 days post hysterectomy: What is normal urination after Foley catheter?

I'm 3 weeks post op and I'm still not 100% with my bladder.
I still have minor spasms especially first am trip. I spoke with my DR who said normal and it will be a bit before it goes away.

When I first had surgery and the catheter was removed it was a struggle to start & stop urinating. That lasted about 5 days or so. It's very gradual that it gets easier. It wasn't just the catheter that affected your bladder & bowels but also the surgery itself.

Hope that helps

I had the same catheter and bubble my doctor said it was from air inflation and would go away in a few days...i had my surgery on 12th and by 15th the bubbles went away. I still have some problems getting urination to start but with concentration it's getting easier. Hope that helps hang in there

I am jealous...wish I could pee (lol). I am post op day 11 and still have my foley cath. I am praying that I don't have any issues once it is removed!
