Pre-op dr. visit on Friday the 24th

Just wondering what I can expect when I visit my doctor on friday. I know that I will have to sign documents and what not but what specific questions would I need to ask. I dont want to take the risk of offending anyone for part of the reason for my hysterectomy. But if anyone has any pointers for me I would love to hear them!

Re: Pre-op dr. visit on Friday the 24th

The Pre-op checkpoint actually has a great sample list of questions to ask the doctor. It can be found by following this link:

Questions to ask the Doctor

Obviously, not all of the questions will pertain to you. But this will get you thinking about your situation and you may think of additional questions!

If you think of other questions after your appointment, don't be shy about contacting the doctor or his staff to ask. They are used to being asked about everything, believe me.

At my pre-op appointment, I was surprised that it was really just a consultation with the doctors (I had an additional procedure, so two teams worked on me) and a blood draw. A year later, when I had another surgery at the same hospital, my pre-op appointment was much more involved and I also met with the anesthesiologist. I guess it is just a matter of doctor preference.

Hope this helps! It will feel good to get the pre-op appointment over.

Re: Pre-op dr. visit on Friday the 24th

My Pre-op was 2 weeks prior to surgery and was just signing papers and getting instructions for the bowel prep and hospital. I had a few questions but I was kind of "shy" about asking some of them. I then had to go to the hospital 6 days prior to surgery and get blood tests, EKG and chest X-ray. That was it. Most of the answers to my questions, I found here at hyster sisters before surgery. I think all DR have their own routine tho. Take someone with you!!!! I didn't want anyone to go with me for some reason and I wish I had. I got lost, arrived late and frazzled, didn't remember all I was told and forgot to ask my questions.
