Pre-op tomorrow- Eek!

Hey all! So my pre-op is tomorrow. This makes this all the more real... Any advice on questions to ask? I'd love to hear input on those who have been through this too and might have questions that I've missed. I've asked a lot, but still am feeling trepidation over it all. My doctor assures me I'm making the right decision, but I'm still worried about how this is going to affect me afterwards. My body, my mind, and my relationship will be affected, and I'm hoping not for the worse! I know my boyfriend will be there for my recovery, but he's having serious doubts about our relationship with my inability to have anymore children. He's pulling away, right when I need him most. Lesigh.... Anyways, Thanks for letting me vent. Any suggestions about any of it are appreciated!

Re: Pre-op tomorrow- Eek!

Hi aerisaugust -

All of your emotions, fears, nerves and feelings are very normal. The fear of the unknowns of what happens after is very difficult to digest. Know that most women recover from this surgery without any complications. It does take time to recovery, however. Think weeks and not days.

I am so sorry your boyfriend is pulling away from you. That is not very fair to you, nor is is very nice. This is not something you control, and it is for your health. That is what is important.

Here are Questions for Your Pre-Op Hysterectomy Appointment.

For my pre-op, they did blood work, urinalysis, BP, EKG, height, weight, etc. It was like a mini-physical. They also did paperwork and hospital particulars.

Here are 10 Tips for Preparing for Your Hysterectomy. Be sure to read the related articles.

What I found most useful were:
-Meals in the freezer that can be just popped in the microwave
-Easy foods for breakfasts and lunches
-Loose fitting clothes
-Recovery corner with pillows and blankets
-Small pillow to hold against your tummy for coughs and sneezes (I just used a throw pillow from my couch)
-Super clean your house (you will not be doing that for a while after surgery)

Just know that you are not alone in this. We are here for you.
