To get your self back, you have to move. Just a little bit at a time. That will help things settle in. A binder will help hold your middle steady as you move around. It might hurt a bit, but will get better every time you move.

And walking will help you defecate. Are you on stool softeners? Gas X may help with the gas. Drink lots of fluid. Eat lots of fibre. Prunes. Raisins. Grapes. Grains. And walk. Walking will help your intestines remember which way to go. If necessary sit on the toilet to help them find the way.

Hang in there. Have a good cry if you need to. That might actually feel pretty cathartic.

Re: myrecovery

{{{myrecovery}}} I know it's hard but you have to walk. It's essential in so many ways. It will get easier. Since changing positions is the hardest part, I found it best to get to a seated position and rest for awhile. Then I walked and sat again. Also, sitting and walking will help reduce congestion. That's especially important because coughing is really painful.

Drink lots of water. It will soften the feces. I recently learned quite by accident that large volumes of water can act like a laxative.

Assuming you had general anesthesia, there was a tube down your throat. It can make your throat really raw. It took 3 days for my voice to start sounding normal. I still have a little irritation.

Re: myrecovery

Syster its only been 2 days. It takes a while for your bowels to get working again. Don't worry! Take your softners, your fibre and if you don't *go* in a few more days... do a dose of miralax.

Hang in there. You are fresh out of surgery. *hug

Re: myrecovery

To help you move, here is a trick that I learned from my doctor's resident. Take a deep breath and breathe out as you move. Apparently you can't tighten up your tummy muscles when you breathe out and the incisions hurt a lot less.

I hope this helps and that you feel better soon. The ladies that have posted before me have given you great suggestions.

I had a sore throat from being intubated during surgery. They gave me Chloraseptic to help with it.

The swollen glands could be from your immune response to surgery. Are you taking your temperature?
