Abdominal hysterectomy

The worst thing I ever did was look up total abdominal hysterctomy up on you tube, now I'm even more terrified than before

lol I did reading I shouldn't have online before mine, but one thing I didn't do, because I knew it wouldn't help, was look on Youtube! Remember any kind of surgery looks alien to someone not familiar with it, but to your surgeon it is their daily work. They don't react the way we do, which is why we're asleep and they're the one operating!

I avoided YouTube, which I knew would be too graphic for me. I found a surgical web site with nice neat line drawings, which was easier for me to handle.

Keep in mind that you're not going to be awake during the surgery and when you wake up, your incision will be neatly closed and bandaged. I didn't even see mine for the first time until three days after my abdominal surgery. And I had a really easy recovery, with minimal pain and no complications.

The pre-surgery nerves are absolutely the worst part of having a hysterectomy. Once the surgery's a done deal, everything gets easier.

I can relate to that. I am a surgical nurse and have seen many hysterectomies live and up close and know all the details. Now I think, oh no, they are going to do that to me!!!

My best friend is a retired nurse and is the worst patient ever!!

I have to be on best behavior because I have to go back to work with the same people!!! I am having my surgery at the hospital I work at.
