Anyone experience Weight Gain/Loss after Hysterectomy?

Just curious since some of us will either lose both ovaries as well, or even ovaries going into shock, if that has an effect on weight gain/loss.
Im hoping for loss, but just looking to get an idea of whether I should keep my fat clothes or not! LOL!

Anyone experience Weight Gain/Loss after Hysterectomy?

There's no real way to know. Some women gain weight; some lose. Sometimes it seems related to hormones, sometimes not.

I had my ovaries removed and am on HRT. I gained weight, then lost, then gained again.

Anyone experience Weight Gain/Loss after Hysterectomy?

I had read about some women gaining weight and since I am overweight was not looking forward to that. To my surprise I have actually lost weight and I cannot eat as much as I used to eat. Hubby and I have decided to take control of our health and so my surgery was part of that. The other part is we just signed up for Nutrisystem and have goals for loss and healthier lifestyle changes all around. We'll see, I've done everything you can name so hopefully doing this as part of the total picture for health will help, as a llifestyle change for the rest of our lives and not a 'diet'.

Anyone experience Weight Gain/Loss after Hysterectomy?

After having fasted for a day, spent 4 days in the hospital barely eating, I was shocked to come home and find I had gained 10 pounds.

All liquid weight from the IV. Within three days I was 15 pounds lighter. Now, 2.5 weeks out, I'm pretty much at the same weight. I'm eating fairly regularly, but it seems like I need extra food to keep the healing going.

I remember reading where lots of people said they gained weight...so who knows?

I do know, it's nice to have baggy clothes to wear right now, so if you've got some, I'd keep them around.

weight post op

I kept ovaries, and I gained about 5 pounds while I was recovering, but I think that's because pancakes made the pain go away and I was very inactive for about the first 4 weeks. If you're normal weight beforehand, there's not really any reason why you would gain after surgery. I think it's just another one of those things -- very individual.

Anyone experience Weight Gain/Loss after Hysterectomy?

I am one of the lucky ones!!! After a day of bowel prep, surgery that lasted 7 hours, and 4 days of liquid diet (I just couldn't pass ) - I lost 35 lbs and have kept it off.

Once I was given regular food, it seems that I was not able to eat as much. I am a plus size sister - - so eating less is a good thing. I also have a more healthy approach to eating. Pre-op, I had never met a steak or a potato that I didn't like.

Now, I am a good to salads, fruit, veggies, and oatmeal.

I certainly didn't plan it this way, but am taking full advantage of it.

As others have said, everyone is different.

Anyone experience Weight Gain/Loss after Hysterectomy?

I weighed myself the morning of my surgery, and the next time the day I went back to work (Monday, March 17) and I lost 11 pounds! I really ate alot of fruit and vegetables while recovering, because I knew I would be inactive. I didn't think I needed to lose 11 pounds, but I'll take it!

weight loss/gain

Hello HysterSisters!

I had my complete abdominal hysterectomy four weeks ago and have lost 20 pounds. I really lost my appetite and am only now starting to feel hungry. I could stand to lose quite a bit more, so I am hoping I can keep it up. Overall, everything went well, thank God. I saw my surgeon this past Wednesday and he told me I did very well and I can now start doing just what my body lets me do. Yeah! NO MORE PERIODS!!!! It was worth the surgery.

Anyone experience Weight Gain/Loss after Hysterectomy?

I got my energy back after surgery, and since I was cleared to exercise again (end of Jan.), I have lost 7lbs of body fat and inches in various places. I work out at Curves, just find something that works for you.

all the answers in here are awesome, I have lost about 55 lbs since last july and I work out (treadmill) every single day, and I try to eat right, and BAM, I am so scared about gaining even a LB back. But I am sure what I gain I can take right back off!
