No ovaries or tubes = why am I still bleeding???
Okay I just couldn't figure out which topic to post my request for information so I hope someone finds me and can give me some advise or point me in the right direction.
A year and a half ago I had to have my ovaries and tubes removed. I have endometriosis and was bleeding every day for months. A lot of the time the bleeding was heavy. My dr. said the only way to stop the bleeding was to remove my ovaries and tubes. So I did a little reading and agreed to have the surgery.
About 6 months post surgery I hit the proverbial hormone wall. Mega hot flashes, night sweats, killer mood and crying at the drop of a hat. Actually I cried at everything that was happy or sad. I tried several hormone replacement meds but I didn't like how they made me feel.
I found a compounder, had my blood work done and everything got better. I felt better, the hot flashed gone
Fast forward to these past 6 months. I started bleeding again. It started as light spotting and lead on to basically a 2 tampon day. February 1st. I went back to my gyno about the bleeding. After much conversation my dr. said I should get a shot of deprovera. It lasts 3 months and that would stop the bleeding. Well, the bleeding stopped for one month. My hot flashes are back - just minor. My problem... I am back to bleeding again. Three tampons a day. The deproverea shot worked for one month but it brought me back to having severe migraines just about every 3 to 4 days and they last for a minimum of 2 days. I am also gaining weight since getting the shot - I'm busting out of my clothes. I wish there was a revearsal shot to the deprovera
Can someone tell me why I am bleeding? I don't understand it. I don't have my ovaries or tubes. I still have my uteris and cervix. The bleeding is getting heavier and these past few days I am also passing blood clots.
I just don't know where to go from here. My compounded hormone doses are as follows: estradiol 2.5, progesterone 20, testosterone .5 mg/ml
Just a fyi = that little dose of the testosterone brought my twitchy back.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions
Thanks,
Karen

(((ksetter)))
You could be bleeding because the estrogen replacement you are using is causing build up of the uterine lining. Women with ovaries on Depo Provera aren't making the estrogen to build up their endometrium so they don't necessarily bleed. Depo Provera works by stopping the ovarian production of hormones. For you, your hormones are exogenous (from HRT), not from the ovaries, so that could be why the Depo Provera is not working to stop your bleeding.
Women without ovaries don't convert natural progesterone to estrogen as well as women who have working ovaries; instead it only happens to the extent that our tissues are deprived of estrogen. It doesn't sound like this is a huge concern for you.
Many of us with endometriosis do have bleeding issues. Are you aware that endometriosis has been known to create its own supply of estrogen? If your doctor missed any endometriosis during your surgery, it could all be complicating your whole situation and you need a knowledgeable doctor to help you.
Have you sat down and talked to your doctor about all that is going on? Have you had a second opinion about what might be best for you? Are you seeing a doctor who is knowledgeable regarding endometriosis since that is the diagnosis that led to your BSO? Could you have another medical condition that is contributing to or causing the bleeding?
I would recommend keeping a symptom diary and sitting down and talking to your doctors. If you can't get anywhere with your GYN, talk to your GP. Your GP can help refer you to someone who can get to the bottom of this and help you.
in there!

Re: No ovaries or tubes = why am I still bleeding???
Hi Xen,
I have been using the compounded hormones for about a year now. The cream has been a savior for me. My gyno decided to give me the depro shot on 2/1, knowing that I was already using the compounding cream, just to stop the bleeding that was going on for several months. I really don't think he should have given me the depro shot.

Since you still have your cervix, you can still have bleeding. At least that is what I was told by my DR. I hope this may help. I would try to get in to see your DR.

No-that much bleeding is NOT normal! I think you're right to find another doctor. Not to be an alarmist but do you have current PAP and endometrial biopsy results? Just another thing to check to be on the safe side...hope you find the help you need soon!

Re: No ovaries or tubes = why am I still bleeding???
I had my annual pap back in November. On 2/1 when my gyno gave me the depro shot he also did a uterine biopsy and both were normal. I need to figure out what kind of doctor specializes in female hormones along with someone who can also include female organs... It is obvious that my current gyno was really great at treating my endometrosis but he really just doesn't know enough about hormones that women naurally produce compared what has to be supplemented when you go through menopause and/or have female parts surgically removed.
