Having a TAH September 4th - Advice, please!

I have a request :
Please help me, with your Thoughts and .. Answers !!

Hello,

I am Andie B.
i Just turned 50. I live in the Vegas area.

* * I am having a TAH, toMorrow !
( We have to go thru tummy since i've not had kids.)

( first, my Other email did not 'work' here,
then, i have been So Busy with work,
so, i am giving my First HS "Thread, today)

I have been "peri" since last year, or, maybe before
( since, the baad periods < see below > ) .

My Wonnderful Naturopath/Bio~Identical/
Menopause~Specialist Female OB doctor,
And,
My Very Nice Male OB "Operations" Dr,
who did my D&C last year, say to 'take Everything Out! '

* * i am Fine with a "Total" and Know (!) and am
Manifesting that i will Not be going thru some or
Any of the Horror stories i have heard, after my "O's"
are gone
(mostly re: how my Feeelings and reactions & hormones
will change/be, and the Meds, & other things).

* . . . And, ... how Much ( or Little ! ) Does this
Change your sex life ? !! ? !!

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

My History :

i have Never had Any hot flashes.

Since the D&C in July '06, i did not have my period
until December (Yay!) and besides 1 day it was
Normal!!
Then, None till March, & Normal ! but had 2 In March
( which heard was 'not good' ) !

Then, None till June and Normal !
But Then, ... the one this July was Horrible,
like beFore my D&C !!

BeFore the D&C, i had Such Heavy Flow,
during a Lot of Monthlys for the past 3~4 Years !
It has been Horrible !

Can't do oblation since we found Pollups during D&C

Could 'Only' take Out the Pollups,
but they 'Could' grow Back.

i don't think 'fibroids' are involved.

Endometriosis has been mentioned.

I am much more of a Stronger than Weaker person
(ie: how i'll Do thru all of this. )

Ok, ok, i Just realized that the certain, few, or,
(ok... ) ... "Some" ~ Not~Heavy (!) "~
perspiry nights ( i feel after i have woken up in am),
are something Else (!) and...Not just because
summer is Hot ! ( Laugh ! )

I do massage and work for self and at times others.
** I told my 'boss' that i need ... 2 weeks off.
Is this tooo Funny for you to read (smile) ?
. . . And/Or, do i Really need the Extra, More than 2 weeks
Off like the Dr. 'suggested' . ?
Orr, just wait and see how i feel in 2 weeks ?

And, before i live Downstairs ( for .. the First 2 weeks ),
with the Computer Upstairs, is it a Good idea i order the
'belly band' Now, toNight !,
beFore i am laid up after i get back from hospital ?

( and, ... ... not ever having Major surgery before,
.. .... ... How Much Willl this (maybe) ... Hurt, and,
for ... how Long !? )

Ladies, i would appreciate any ideas, thoughts,
advice, etc, and whether you think it is still the best for
Me to have a "Total" or 'partial' "H" and keep my "O's"
or not.

I am a night owl ( and still have Things to do
before tomorrow) and will be staying up Late,
so i Will see any much later responses you have sent.

Thank You, Very Much

andie

Good luck tomorrow! I had a TAH (kept ovaries) on 7/3/07. I think I've had a fairly good recovery, but I wasn't ready to go back to work until almost 7 weeks. I feel almost back to normal except for lifting and am SO glad I had the surgery.

Hello andie and

If your ovaries are healthy, there may be many benefits to keeping them, as outlined in this article from our Pre-Op Articles archive:

Keep Ovaries

I hope that, in partnership with your medical providers, you make the surgical decisions that are best for you!

Many s and Best Wishes,

I would definitely plan on being out longer than 2 weeks. Isn't massage kind of physically demanding on you? Remember, you just get this one chance to heal the right way the first time so don't overdo after your surgery.
Good luck.

Well, first I can understand any anxiety you might be having the night before your surgery. Secondly, I'm not sure how to answer your question about whether to have total/partial ovaries/no ovaries. Every woman's situation and reason for surgery is different. For instance, given multiple surgeries and increasing severity of symptoms as time went on, I knew prior to going in for my surgery that I would be having everything removed (I was down to an ovary, uterus, and cervix). However, just in case, my doctor and I agreed that once he was inside if he saw something(s) that could be left then it was okay to leave it. Turned out nothing could be and that there was more going on than we were aware of. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that your doc won't know until he/she's in there. It also depends on your pre-op conversations. Wish I had some better and more concrete answers for you

To answer some of your other questions...It took me about 6 weeks of recovery at home before being able to return to work. I went back to work full-time when I returned and only felt a little tired at the end of the day. My job was mostly sitting though. This could make a difference for you as you do massage. I wish I had had the belly band so if you are still thinking of ordering it I would. I really wanted to have one when I was walking around especially as I became more and more active. I recovered pretty steadily without complications. Your recovery time will depend on what is actually done tomorrow. Pain wasn't too bad. Just stay "on top of it" (especially at home) meaning don't let the pain become too great because it seems to take longer to get it under control again. Take medicine exactly as prescribed. I found I rested more at home than at the hospital simply because no one was coming into my room about every 4 hours (nights were worse for me) to check my vitals. I recommend putting a recovery area together prior to going to the hospital replete with whatever your creature comforts are i.e. favorite magazines, books, crosswords, tv (if you watch) & the remote(s), dvds, vhs tapes, music, cups, a pitcher, etc. You get the idea. I found having these things nearby very helpful. The last thing I wanted to do was get up again because I forgot something across the room (by this time my hubby had returned to work so I was on my own for most of the day). Hope some of this is helpful. Good luck tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you. Be sure to post and let us know how you faired when you are able.
